What the hell just happened?

How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 Episode 9 picked up in the immediate aftermath of How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 Episode 8, and the twists and turns certainly kicked up a few gears. 

The blanks on what happened that night have been filled right in, and now the characters are in more trouble than ever before. Would it be How to Get Away with Murder without the characters worrying about going to jail? I think not. 

I was floored when Jorge showed up at the hospital. That man is no good, and he will do everything and anything to assert his power over Laurel. I don't believe for one minute he had no idea what Laurel was up to. 

His reaction to the baby being born and the way he made the case to get the child under his care proves that. This is yet another power play for him to get Laurel in line. 

Who would essentially steal a kid from a newborn mother? It's horrifying, and the parents on this show are not good in the slightest. That said, I'm still on the fence about Laurel taking cocaine. 

Her behavior has been erratic of late, and while this could all be down to her being taken off her antidepressants, this show has a knack for throwing curveballs our way. 

The reveal that Dominick was the one to call Laurel was a good one, but I'm not buying his sudden interest in her. This is the man that killed Wes without thinking twice about it. 

He's dangerous, and he deserved to die. Him getting close to Laurel again would have been a mistake on so many levels, and I could not believe her thinking that he was reformed.

Connor: Annalise is calling.
Michaela: Take it. Tell her to get Asher out of jail.
Connor: Oh, now you're okay with me asking her for help?
Michaela: Connor, please?

The more likely reason for Laurel trying to get in contact with Dominick was that she thought it would get her in good graces with her father, thus, getting her closer to her child. 

Frank killing Dominick also allowed us to hear who Wes sent that voicemail to on the day he died, and I have no idea what to think about it. Wes wanted to speak to Dominick, and the man killed him. 

That's low, and it seems like the final batch of episodes of How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 will focus on what Wes was doing speaking to Dominick. 

It's crazy, but there are still some unanswered questions about the night Wes died, and we should probably be putting that story to bed now. It's been going on for well over a year. 

What was great about this hour was that it unified the characters once again. Annalise was working together with Frank, and it felt like the good old days, and this whole situation will likely keep them working together from here on out. 

Connor: Hey, um, you might want to sit down for this.
Annalise: What the hell happened to Laurel, Connor?
Connor: I don't know, she isn't home.
Annalise: I know, I'm at the hospital wth her.
Connor:The hospital?
Annalise: She had the baby, Connor.
Connor: No.
Annalise: Yes, I found her in my elevator. She almost bled to death.
Connor: Bled to death from what?
Annalise: I don't know. You were all with her.
Connor: I wasn't when it all went down.
Annalise: When what went down? Connor?
Connor: There was a shooting.
Annalise: What?

The way Michaela, Asher, and Connor reacted to the news Simon was alive was typical. However, the very notion that Simon is going to remember anything about that night is laughable. 

He shot himself in the head. The chances of him even pulling through are minimal. He may be in a stable state, but complications can arise. 

Oliver was right to warn them off hurting him. Murder is the reason they are all immersed in this world of deceit, and unless they change, they are always going to rely on murder to get them ahead of the game. 

Did anyone else find the closing scene with Annalise giving them the riot act to be excellent? Most of them have acted like Annalise is the stupid one for years, but now she holds all the power. 

Will she be able to save them all? I'm not so sure, but it's going to be fun to watch it all play out. 

"He's Dead" was a solid return for this ABC drama series. It's crazy, but the series always manages to find a new and invigorating way to tell the tale, and the powers that be have found a reason to bring the characters back together, so I'm happy about it. 

Other tidbits from the episode:

• Tegan is not the type of person to accept someone lying to her, so it should be fun to see what she has in store for Michaela at Caplan & Gold.

• With Dominick dead, could Jorge still hold that meeting at the firm and grill Oliver about what he knows?

• Annalise threatening Isaac was hilarious. She did have a point. He's not been ethical up until now, so why start now?

• Bonnie had a killer reason for getting Asher released from prison, but how long will it be before he's arrested for good?

• So, Frank is not the baby daddy, you guys! It's confirmed.
