Charles Esten will not be away from the small screen for long.

According to Deadline, the Nashville star has booked a recurring role on Tell Me Your Secrets, a brand new drama which is coming to TNT.

The series focuses on a trio of characters each with a mysterious and troubling past, including Emma (Lily Rabe), a young woman who once came face to face with a deranged killer, John (Hamish Linklater), a former serial predator determined to find redemption for the sins of his past.

And then there's Mary (Amy Brenneman), a mother obsessed with finding her missing daughter. As each of them is pushed to the edge, the truth about their pasts and motives grows ever darker, blurring the lines between victim and perpetrator.

In short, it sounds like one of the most promising shows out there, but the true test will be whether the scope of the story allows for enough drama to last a full season.

Esten will take on the role of Saul Barlow, a father who is struggling to cope with the disappearance of his daughter. His storyline is driven by loss, and how he reacts to the hand, he has been dealt.

The character is the husband to Mary, and it sure sounds like they have distinctly different ways of dealing with the great loss that has changed their lives forever.

Esten is coming off a starring role in Nashville. He has played the role of Deacon Claybourne since the show debuted in October 2012.

The series was canceled by ABC back in 2016 after four seasons, but CMT stepped up to the challenge and revived it for more episodes.

As expected, the show took a huge hit by moving to the lower-viewed cable network, but it performed well enough o stick around for a little longer.

CMT confirmed last November that the show was entering its last ever season, so it gave the powers that be plenty of time to craft arcs for the characters to bring their stories to a close.
