Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Recasts Greg With Skylar Astin

Have you been holding out hope for Greg's return ever since Santino Fontana's lovable alter ego departed Crazy Ex-Girlfriend almost two years ago?

Well, we have some news that is either going to make your day or break it:

Greg is returning for the final season of the comedy series, but he will have a whole new look.

Pitch Perfect actor, Skylar Astin will be stepping into the role of Greg when the series returns in October.

"When Rachel and I were conceiving the show, we had always intended that Greg and Rebecca’s romance would end where it did, but we would keep Greg on (the show)," co-creator, Aline Brosh McKenna said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Monday.

Fontana opted to leave the series after his one-year deal with the show concluded. That was around the time Greg, and Rachel's relationship went south.

McKenna went on to say that she called Santino to let him know that Greg was coming back "out of the highest respect," but confirmed the best foot forward was to "reimagine" the role with a new actor.

"Rachel and I had always been exploring bringing back that character and finding a way to do it that fit our show," she said.

The good thing is that both Aline and Rachel Bloom confirmed Rebecca is going to be confused by the change in appearance.

Rebecca is going to call it out and say this person’s different, 'What the (expletive)!'” Bloom said.

“We’re playing with the ideas and themes of perception, how he sees her and how other people see each other. It feels so exciting and new for us. It is a fun comment (on) people in TV shows being recast. We’re not going to pretend.”

It was recently confirmed that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's final season had been expanded to 18 episodes, meaning fans still have a lot of time left with the characters.
