Superstore Season 5 Episode 4 Review: Mall Closing

The local mall has closed on Superstore Season 5 Episode 4 and caused all the teenagers in the city to declare Cloud 9 their new hangout spot.
The store may be packed, but these kids aren't planning on buying anything.

Getting them out ends up being harder than the employees expected, and things get even more complicated when Amy realizes her daughter is among the group of teens.
Amy doing everything possible to impress her daughter was comical, but also a bit sad. Emma can't be expected to think her mom is as cool as viewers do, but could she treat Amy a little better for our sakes?
It's going so well with Emma! She just told me that I wasn't being too weird.
Amy
Amy broke all the store rules and catered to her daughter and her friends to make a good impression. Most teenagers may think it's lame, but Amy's actions aren't ones all mothers would take.
Viewers don't get to see the motherly side of Amy often, given that Emma is only in a handful of episodes, but there's no doubt that Amy is an amazing mom.
It may take a while for her to come around, but one day, Emma will realize it too.
Besides, is her father really the cool parent? No offense Adam...but you're kind of a loser and Amy is the one raking in the dough.
I guess this is a losing battle. The more I try and get to her the further she runs away.

It was disappointing that Superstore didn't take this opportunity to throw in a scene or two with Emma and Jonah.
Superstore Season 4 Episode 17 was a fan favorite episode, specifically because of Emma and Jonah's interactions.
Jonah and Amy's daughter had a bit of a rocky relationship at first, but they appeared to have bonded by the time Emma's Quinceñera came to a close.
We want to know what their relationship is like now. Was that episode supposed to serve as development for the two, or will it simply be brushed aside?

Jonah sacrificed his integrity to help Emma hide that she was high, which is bound to be something Emma won't forget.
Unless she was too high to remember, which is also a possibility.
Amy: Who are those girls?
Emma: Oh, those are my drug dealer friends. We sit in the pile of broken bottles by the bleachers.
It's hard to believe that Emma and Jonah don't have some type of relationship, given that Jonah and Amy live together. Emma still lives with her mom half the time and it's difficult not to bond with someone you share space with.
Has Jonah stepped into a fatherly-like role? He would become her step-dad if Amy and Jonah ever got married, but it no longer seems likely that that'll happen anytime soon.
As much as I want to yell, "Simmosa proposal confirmed!" I have to admit that things aren't looking good.
Unfortunatly, Superstore Season 5 Episode 4 didn't deliever on the Amy and Jonah scenes once again. While the content was still funny overall, it feels as if the series has been losing its spark ever since the second half of Superstore Season 4.
Garrett: Feel good to help people?
Jonah: Don't uh...tell Amy about this.
There's no doubt that I'm a huge fan of Amy and Jonah as a couple, but their lack of relationship progress isn't what's taking away from the show.
The problem is a lack of their relationship at all.
Whether they were enemies, co-workers, friends, or more, Jonah and Amy have always been one of the best parts of the series.
Their scenes are integral to Superstore as a whole and it doesn't feel the same without them.

Amy's new position as the store manager doesn't give her and Jonah the same opportunity to run around Cloud 9 together, but that's still no excuse for the lack of content between them.
I fell in love with a show about a seemingly uptight shift supervisor, a new, bright-eyed employee who's determined to prove to her that anything can be an adventure and a hilarious group of workers that help bring the series to a new level of comedy.
This concept has always been the heart and soul of the show, but a heart needs a constant flow of blood for it to keep beating.
Can Superstore find their core again? Or are they purposefully taking things in a new direction?
If they are, they might want to reevaluate that decision.

When it comes to Mateo and his financial struggles, it was admirable that Jonah was willing to do anything to get Mateo to accept his money.
But where is Jonah getting the money from? Last we heard, Jonah had $200,000 in student loan debt that's accumulating interest every day. Not to mention that he's earning minimum wage.
This is yet another issue that Superstore needs to address. There seems to be quite a lot of plot lines that have been left open-ended, but fans deserve for them to be explored.
Don't bring something up if you're not going to follow through with it.

All in all, the series remains comedic and I have an incredible amount of respect for its continuous integration of real-world issues.
The union storyline wasn't further developed on Superstore Season 5 Episode 4, but it's a plot-line we're sure will continue on throughout Superstore Season 5.
Hopefully, Superstore will return to its roots soon and remind us what makes the first three seasons so rewatchable in the first place.

- Jonah giving Mateo money through bets reminds me of the Friends episode with Joey and Chandler. We love true friends!
- Sandra being appreciated and protected by the teenage girls was refreshing. Protect Sandra at all costs!
- Cheyenne is proof that it only takes a couple years of being out of highschool for the cool teenage lingo to change. It's sad, but it's true.
- Someone needs to confirm the Glenn and Dina hug for me because I still think I imagined it.
- At least Dina and Amy are spending a lot of time together. Who doesn't love watching Amy hang out with her self-proclaimed bestie?
