Daybreak will not be returning for a second season.

Netflix has pulled the plug on the post-apocalyptic dramedy after just one season.

Series co-creator/executive producer Aron Coleite revealed the sad news on social media late Monday.

Daybreak

“We learned last week that Daybreak will not be returning for a second season,” Coleite wrote.

“We’re so sorry we couldn’t share it with you sooner but also grateful that we got to hang out in these last few live tweet sessions with all of you."

"Thank you for picking up what we put down, for running with it in all of your amazing, weird, monstrous ways and for being such an important part of this show and our experience making it."

Glendale in Daybreak

He continued, "Here at Daybreak we don't say we love you. We say 'you're a shit.' We say 'let's be monsters.' so be shits, be monsters, give 'em hell. Most importantly, keep being you."

"No one is as heartbroken as we are that we can’t share more of this ride with you. But we’re so grateful to have gotten to bring it this far.”

"Thank you for riding with us, for your voices, your enthusiasm, your memes, your fart jokes, and your unashamed crazy."

Turbo and Mona Lisa

"We'll see you out there."

The series followed the story of 17-year-old Canadian high school outcast Josh Wheeler, who is searching for his missing British girlfriend Sam Dean in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California.

He is joined by a ragtag group of misfits, including 10-year-old pyromaniac Angelica and Josh's former high school bully Wesley, who is now a pacifist would-be samurai.

Josh tries to survive amongst the hordes of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazonian warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.

Sam and Burr

The cast included Supernatural‘s Colin Ford, Revenge‘s Alyvia Alyn Lind, Atlanta‘s Austin Crute, Smash‘s Krysta Rodriguez, and Matthew Broderick.

Netflix rarely releases streaming data, so it's tough to tell how many viewers the series actually had.

What do you think of the decision to end it?
