Being a teenager has its fair share of challenges, but learning your parent was once a superhero sidekick is up there as the biggest.

Even worse is learning that you're the next in line. It's a solid basis for DC Universe's latest original series, which will also air on The CW, giving fans a lot of different ways to watch.

The official trailer dropped late Tuesday, and it looks different enough from The CW's Arrowverse for the decision to air on that network to make sense.

Stargirl Suits Up

"High school sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past," reads the official logline.

"This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series premiering in 2019, produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions."

Courtney/Stargirl is “a smart, athletic and above all else kind” teenager whose “seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska."

Brec Bassinger Attends Event

"Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero."

"‘Borrowing’ the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.”

The first trailer shows Joel McHale's Starman under a pile of rubble, where he says the following:

"The Justice Society must live on," he says, before saying that someone must carry the torch.

Brec Bassinger Promotes Darkest Minds

That's where Brec Bassinger's Courtney comes into play, but Luke Wilson's Pat Dugan warns the youngster that the staff "is extremely temperamental."

Members of the Justice Society of America and the Injustice Society will appear on Stargirl Season 1, meaning that there's a lot to look forward to for fans of the DC comics.

The cast also includes Brian Stapf as Ted Grant (Wildcat), Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Rex Tyler (Hourman), Henry Thomas as Charles McNider (Dr. Mid-Nite), and Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman.

Stargirl Season 1 will span 13 episodes, first airing on DC Universe. Episodes will then air on The CW, as well as on the network's free digital platforms.
