TV Ratings: The Resident Surges With Fall Finale

at .  Updated at .

The weather is getting colder, but are more people staying in to watch TV? It depends on what they're watching.

FOX's decision to split The Resident and 9-1-1 has been controversial, but maybe it's starting to pay off.

The Resident Season 3 Episode 9 -- the fall finale -- surged 33 percent in the demo to a 0.8 rating, while also rising 20 percent in total viewers to 4.2 million.

Being Deposed - tall - The Resident Season 3 Episode 9

This is a season high in total viewers.

Will the show be able to keep up the pace in 2020? Time will tell.

But given the explosive nature of the stories getting told and the quickness with which they're wrapping up, more viewers should start tuning in to be in on the fabulous conversations here at TV Fanatic.

A once-leading ratings performer, though, couldn't hold onto that momenturm.

Once upon a time, Empire was THE broadcast network show to watch, almost rivaling The Walking Dead in its popularity.

My, how times have changed.

Empire Season 6 Episode 9 followed The Resident with 2.6 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, gaining some ground of its own.

But still, that's hardly anything to brag about given the numbers it pulled in initially.

Since it's the final season, the hope surely was that it would garner a lot of attention.

Unfortunately, it's limping along to the finish line with an unnecessarily long finale stretch.

Barry sees it - The Flash Season 6 Episode 8

Even The CW saw an uptick, as it should since Arrow is winding down and all of the superhero shows are ramping up to the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The Flash Season 6 Episode 8, the final pre-Crisis episode perked up to 1.3 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.

Arrow was flat with 0.8 million viewers and a 0.3 rating.

That's kind of disappointing since Arrow is creatively addressing its end with a walk down memory lane.

Brad Paisley's holiday special at ABC garnered 6.3 million/0.8 rating, while the CMA Country Christmas had 5.1 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, off over 10 percent year-to-year.

Where are all of the country music fans this year?

Over on NBC, The Grinch had 5.3 million viewers and a 1.1 rating, while a How to Train Your Dragon special had 3.9 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.

The Voice (6.4 million/1.0 rating) was at season lows.
