Will Smith Smacks Chris Rock After Jada Pinkett Smith Joke During Oscars Telecast

Just like other awards shows, the Academy Awards have been slipping in relevance over the last few years.

The 2022 Academy Awards featured some big winners on the night, but Chris Rock found himself in trouble with Will Smith for a joke he made about his wife.

Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith being in "G.I. Jane" because of her shaved head, prompting Will to go on the stage and slap him.

Rock was visibly stunned as Will returned to his seat and yelled the following at him.

“Keep my wife’s name out of your f----g mouth!”

"Oh wow," said a Rock Rock as Smith made his way back to his seat.

"Will Smith just smacked the s--- out of me."

"Wow, dude, it was a G.I. Jane joke," said Rock prompting Will to double down, "Keep my wife's name out your f---ing mouth!"

"I'm going to, okay?" Rock replied.

"That was the ... greatest night in the history of television," the star added.

The footage was censored during the telecast, but it aired unedited in Australia.

The shocking moment left people at the event shocked, and while many initially believed the whole scenario to have been a joke, it doesn't appear to be that.

Pinkett Smith suffers from the autoimmune disorder alopecia (which attacks hair follicles resulting in bald spots and hair loss).

The star opened up about her "issues with hair loss" during an episode of her show Red Table Talk, explaining, "It was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, 'Oh my god, am I going bald?'"

At the time, Pinkett Smith shared that she had found some treatment to combat some of the hair loss.

"I'm getting my little steroid injections, and they seem to be helping, but not curing, but they seem to be helping, but I'm open to other ideas," the star shared.

"I just want to say a thank you to everyone for all the outreach, from all the doctors and all the holistic practitioners, who have been reaching out to me for this head of mine, I appreciate it so much," she said.

"And I'm taking into a lot of consideration all the recommendations that are coming my way."

Will won his first Oscar for his role as father and coach of tennis player Venus and Serena Williams in the movie King Richard, and addressed the altercation in his acceptance speech.

“Denzel [Washington] said to me, at your highest moment, be careful — that’s when devil comes for you,” he said.

“I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to my fellow nominees.”

In the aftermath of the shocking incident, the LAPD  revealed that Rock declined to file a police report, according to Variety.
