The Fox hit 9-1-1 is getting a new character!
Jennifer Love Hewitt is joining the cast as a series regular!
She'll not be someone random, either, but instead will have a backstory that will allow her to fit seamlessly into the narrative. Her addition might have repercussions for another popular character on the show, though.
If you watch 9-1-1 online you are already familiar with the dynamic of this hot Fox series.
It follows the first responders to some of Los Angeles' most horrific and sometimes awkward emergency situations.

Co-created by co-created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Minear, it stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi and Rockmond Dunbar.
One of these stars is the character who has a personal relationship with the character played by Hewitt.

Introduced early in 9-1-1 Season 1 as a bad boy with a heart of gold, Evan "Buck" Buckley (Stark) wanted badly to be the best firefighter. Period.
The problem was he didn't know how to leave the ladies behind. Quite literally. Buck would arrive at an emergency scene and leave with the phone number of a woman he just had a hand in saving.

Whether it was a rescue thing or a God complex was hard to tell, but throughout the truncated first (and thrilling) premiere season, Buck eventually found his way to an older and wonderful 9-1-1 operator named Abby (the ever-delightful Connie Britton).
They fell hard for one another, but by the end of the season, Abby had suffered some trauma of her own with the death of her mother from Alzheimer's. It had been so long since lived without taking care of the mother she loved so much, she left for Paris to do some soul-searching.

While they enjoyed their time together and promised to wait it out, the future for Buck and Abby is up in the air.
Enter Hewitt. No!! Not as a love interest, but as Buck's sister, starting her life over as a 9-1-1 operator. We don't know much more about Maddie, but the opportunities are endless!

And yes, that does mean Britton will not be returning as a series regular for 9-1-1 Season 2. Whether she will make an appearance to wrap up Abby's storyline or if she's open to the possibility of returning in the future is unknown.
Britton will be starring in Bravo's anthology series, Dirty John.

Renewal Scorecard 2018-2019: What’s Coming Back?
Hewitt is best known for her work on Party of Five, many movies, The Ghost Whisperer, and The Client List. She's always been a favorite of mine, so I look forward to her addition to the series.
What do you think of this casting news? Are you looking forward to a new character joining the show? Are you surprised Buck gets so many relationships?
