When Dexter originally ended in 2013, I remember thinking: What the hell did I just watch?
Dexter Season 8 Episode 12 wasn’t just bad — it became a blueprint for how not to end a beloved series.
The show that once oozed brilliance devolved into nonsense, abandoning all logic as it limped across the finish line.
Then came Dexter: New Blood in 2021, a revival that I couldn’t bring myself to care about. Its goal was obvious: fix what went wrong and open the door for franchise potential.
And while it was better — and it was — it still felt frustrating, illogical, and emotionally empty at times.
It ended with Harrison killing his father and hitting the road. Poetic? Maybe. Satisfying? Not really.
It was another half-baked farewell, made even more irritating by Showtime’s clear intention to keep the franchise alive no matter what.
Fast forward to 2025. Dexter: Original Sin is heading into Season 2, and then Dexter: Resurrection premieres — a present-day sequel in which Dexter wakes up from a coma and is somehow alive and well.
Dexter: Resurrection Shouldn’t Work
On paper, it sounded absurd. A desperate, stitched-together revival nobody asked for.
I didn’t even plan to watch it. I thought this franchise had been sliced, diced, and drained of all remaining blood.
Then I stumbled on the first two episodes. And damn it… I loved them.
Dexter: Resurrection shouldn’t work. But it really does.
Bringing back David Zayas as Batista was a genius move. He’s no longer just the gruff cop with a heart — he’s now Dexter’s biggest threat.
And honestly, the ambiguity in their dynamic gives the show a suspenseful edge it hasn’t had in over a decade.
Batista has every reason to want Dexter unmasked as the Bay Harbor Butcher. He’s lost so much — friends, colleagues — all connected to Dexter’s reign of calculated terror.
Batista Is Ready to Unmask Dexter for Who He Really Is
And let’s be real: Batista is probably the most equipped character left in the Dexter universe to take him down. He’s smart, experienced, and suspicious as hell.
If Dexter harms him, he’ll be breaking the code he’s clung to for years — and he knows it. But Batista isn’t walking into this unprepared.
If he disappears, you better believe there are fail-safes in place. That cat-and-mouse tension? It’s thrilling.
Then there’s Harrison. Let’s be honest — he was insufferable in Dexter: New Blood. But his behavior made sense, given who his father was.
On Dexter: Resurrection, he’s in a better headspace (mostly), even if he’s still one poor decision away from jail time.
And don’t get me started on Uma Thurman’s Charley. Her presence is electric from the jump, and I can’t wait to see how she factors into the chaos.
Setting the series in New York City? Brilliant. It’s a whole new playground for Dexter and company, full of dark corners and fresh dangers. It feels alive in a way the franchise hasn’t since the Trinity Killer days.
I don’t like admitting when I’m wrong. But Dexter: Resurrection is easily the best thing to happen to this franchise since Dexter Season 4.
Maybe this time, they’ll actually stick the landing.
