Well, it’s been a year in TV land, hasn’t it? Behind the scenes, network drama has been giving actual dramas a run for their money.
CBS’s newly announced 2025–2026 midseason lineup arrives with all the confidence of a network that somehow keeps finding solid footing while the rest of the broadcast industry slips around on banana peels.
The biggest eyebrow-raiser? CIA, Dick Wolf‘s shiny new FBI spinoff — the one quietly stepping into the space left behind after CBS seemingly cleared the deck by cancelling FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted.
That move alone had fans spiraling, and CIA’s behind-the-scenes drama hasn’t added to the confusion. This midseason premiere feels less like business as usual and more like CBS planting a new flag in the franchise landscape, and they’re just feeling their way for how it plays out.
And then there’s the biggest plot twist: Kayce Dutton himself saddling up for primetime broadcast in Taylor Sheridan‘s Y: Marshals.
Yellowstone moving to broadcast used to be unthinkable — prestige cable royalty crossing into the old-school airwaves? Holy moly. But if anyone can do it, it’s Sheridan, and if any network can pull it off right now, it’s CBS.
Because let’s be honest: when we talk about “scripted broadcast television,” CBS is pretty much the last man standing.
NBC is leaning into the Olympics and Chicago reruns like they’re emotional support animals. FOX hasn’t seen a drama renewal in ages. ABC is barely hanging on.
However, CBS is still rolling out new dramas, big franchise swings, and an actual primetime strategy.
So yes — we’re rooting for them. Big time. Somebody has to keep the lights on for scripted TV fans, and CBS seems determined to stay in the fight.
