These two are Salem royalty, with Jennifer’s ties to Alice and Tom, and Jack’s status as a beloved family member who was once the most hated man in town.
To make it even sweeter, they’re actually acknowledging JJ. But Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 9-01-25 also have the horrible news that Jack is going to try to bring Gwen back into the family.
Hopefully, The Writers Are Making Up For Lost Time…
Jack and Jennifer were a huge part of Days of Our Lives during the 1980s and 90s, and Jennifer dominated the early 2010s, but you wouldn’t guess it from how they have been written lately.
Melissa Reeves lives in Tennessee now, so she may not always be available, but still. The Deverauxes have been the forgotten family for far too long.
JJ is the most invisible character in Salem. Recurring shouldn’t mean that he disappears for weeks or months at a time, especially when he’s supposed to be a cop and a major case is ongoing.
Hopefully, the writers are finally addressing this issue. Not only are Jack and Jennifer coming home, but they’re making the trip specifically because it’s JJ’s birthday.
It’s so rare nowadays for them to acknowledge that their son exists that I almost fell out of my chair when I read that spoiler.
The last time Jack and Jennifer were in town, they spent all of five minutes with JJ and didn’t seem to care much that he wasn’t around for most of their visit.
Matthew Ashford Wants To Return, And His Story Idea Is Brilliant — Could It Be Happening?
A while ago, Matthew Ashford (Jack) said that he’d love for Jack to return to mentor Leo or other young reporters at the Salem Spectator.
Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 9-01-25 don’t say anything about that, but it’s a great idea.
The newspaper has finally returned to its former glory… sort of.
Chad is running the paper, and somehow Leo is the star reporter, but half the scandals in town are caused by the DiMeras, making it hard to believe Chad is as objective as he claims to be.
It’s long past time for Jack to have a compelling story and to stay for more than a few episodes. (He and Jennifer will be back for the 60th anniversary in November, but that’s not enough.)
In the late 1980s, Jennifer was an inspiring figure as a female journalist who refused to back down out of fear. I loved her so much as a little kid that it inspired me to become a writer when I grew up.
Jack mentoring others the way his mentorship of her led to romance would be a strong full-circle story… but in the meantime, what IS happening is another unnecessary Jack and Gwen story.
That’s Right — Jack Will Waste His Time (And Ours) On Gwen
For some reason, Jack decides to try to convince Gwen to go to JJ’s birthday party.
I can almost guarantee that JJ doesn’t want that. I know for sure I don’t.
According to the promo video, Gwen will say that everyone hates her, and Jack will tell her that HE doesn’t.
If Gwen had even one redeeming quality, I’d support Jack trying to build bridges with his wayward daughter, but she doesn’t.
She returned from Alamania even worse than when she left.

So far, Gwen’s story consists of her wandering around Salem, saying nasty things to people, and gloating about how much money she has.
That’s not someone who deserves endless chances from her father, or from anyone.
Days of Our Lives needs to demonstrate that there is some purpose to her visit, and fast, because right now, all I want is for her to disappear again.
Julie Will Give Jennifer an Earful About Cat And Chad, But That’s The Least Exciting Story This Week
Fall previews say that Chad’s interest in Cat will cause a “family feud” (and not the game show!)
Some of that is undoubtedly going to be caused by Julie venting to Jennifer, since no one else is interested in her opinion of Cat.
Jennifer can be just as judgmental as Julie when she wants to be, and neither of those women wants Cat anywhere near Chad.
It’s hypocritical as hell. Jennifer married Jack with full knowledge that he raped Kayla, but can’t forgive Cat pretending under duress to be Abigail.
It’s also an unimportant story in the scheme of things, considering that this week, Kristen is being sentenced for a crime she didn’t commit and Brady inches closer to the truth about Sophia’s baby.
The baby stuff is exciting, even though it’s also standard soap fare. I’m eager for Brady to put two and two together.
I’m digging this newer, smarter Brady. That character was always the most oblivious and gullible, but not anymore.
I’ve read more than one thread on social media suggesting Brady might take his late dad’s place in Black Patch, and I wouldn’t doubt it.
I’d Love For Jennifer To Get Involved In At Least One Of The Mysteries Surrounding Brady
Brady is suspicious as hell of Sophia, and with good reason.
He also really should be suspicious of Kristen’s sudden desire to confess to attempted murder and go to prison for it, but he’s lived through enough chaos to believe that this is just Kristen being Kristen.
Brady and Jennifer have always been close friends, even when Brady was using and making false claims that JJ was the one back on drugs.
Jennifer is also a star reporter, and she proved her instincts are still great by being the only one to see through Cat’s fake Abigail act (plus she was also suspicious of Doug III).
Plus, she used to be best friends with Kristen for reasons that no one understood, so she knows her well enough to see through her nonsense.
Jennifer needs to stay in town long enough to help Brady crack one or both of these cases wide open. That would be the perfect homage to her career and their long friendship.
Brady Gets Closer To The Truth, While Sophia Freaks Out
There will be plenty of movement on the baby story this week, even if Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 9-01-25 don’t include Jennifer in that.
Brady is supposed to ask that adoption attorney what the sex of the baby is.
In real life, she wouldn’t be able to tell him anything due to lawyer-client confidentiality, but I bet she’ll either tell him she was hired by Melinda to lie or admit she knows nothing about Sophia and Tate’s case.
Sophia will freak out in front of Melinda, who will undoubtedly convince her to keep lying. I hope someone overhears that conversation!
There are also a few other things going on, most notably that Xander starts his anger management counseling with Marlena, and later, for some reason, he appears to need to do the Heimlich manuever to save Philip’s life.
