A senior-aged couple intends to participate in some strenuous bouncing activity, but just as the husband claims he’s great, he collapses and pulls her down with him.
We have our opening case.
Meanwhile, back at Hannah’s apartment, she’s still reeling and telling her brother that they killed a kid because of their actions. She tells Charlie she wants him out of her house, then leaves for work.
Joan and Michael meet with the obnoxious board head, Max, and he doesn’t want to call in the FBI because he thinks that’ll somehow protect the hospital. Amy bursts into the room and lays her foot down.
Max is so intimidated by Amy that it’s hilarious because he caves.
Amy then asks for a list of men she worked with in the past to see if she can find the man from her memories. Michael agrees, and when she apologizes to Nora, he shuts her down, basically saying it’s not her business.
TJ and Soya are at a middle school, checking kids out for scoliosis. I didn’t even know they still did that.
And Sonhya tells TJ that she needs to get away from the hospital for a bit and that Amy has thrown her hat in the ring for Chief Resident. They are starting to come across more flirty.
Hannah is at the hospital having flashbacks to losing her patient, and Amy notices and gives her advice about “letting it go.” Amy is being so friendly, sweet, and sympathetic, and it cheers Hannah up as they head in to see Mr. Bell and his caretaker, Gloria.
It’s wild that Amy is giving Hannah so much grace and being a genuine mentor, and Hannah is just ruining her.
Apparently, Mr. Bell took a lot of ibuprofen because he tends to forget a great deal. Mr. Bell’s kids are there, and the daughter, specifically, tries to shift blame to Gloria for not locking up the medications to avoid incidents like this.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bell needs to take charcoal to help everything pass through his stomach.
The daughter asks Amy to step outside to talk, and she and her brother speak to Amy. Pam, the daughter, says she doesn’t trust Gloria because Mr. Bell just added Gloria to the will, and she’ll get $100K if Mr. Bell dies.
Pam insists that she doesn’t want Gloria alone with her father. And her brother is annoyed that she’s jumping to such conclusions.
We get a flashback to Hannah and Charlie at a site where they’ve tracked down their father’s car. Their mother is on the phone, and apparently Bryan has been missing for three days.
Hannah notices the car first, and the hose in the tailpipe. They rush to the car, but Bryan is dead. The siblings freak out and sob over him, and their mother is frantically crying and trying to understand what is happening over the phone.
Michael heads to Edie, the HR lady, and asks for all the white male doctors from a specific time frame. She seems resistant togivinge things to hi,m but complies.
Amy talks to Gloria about Mr. Bell and tries to understand better the dynamics and how they’re influencing things. Gloria says that Freddie, the son, comes by every week, but Pam is the one she rarely sees around.
Gloria explains that she doesn’t lock up the meds so Mr. Bell can still have some control and dignity. Amy tells her that, unfortunately, that’ll have to change.
A young boy, Noah, asks TJ to check his throat. He’s been dealing with a horrible sore throat for weeks. He shares that his parents died, and it’s his sister who has taken care of him.
They have to call his guardian, his sister, who is at work. Noah’s strep has escalated enough that he needs to get to the hospital.
Katie stops by to talk to Gina. She mentions a recording of Gina and her mother. Katie explains the recording, but it’s not the same one Katie is talking about.
Gina swears and reassures her that the message Katie heard wasn’t real. Gina tells Michael, and he says he thought Katie hadn’t heard it.
Michael shuts down Gina, wanting to tell Amy, but instead wants to do it himself. He says he and Amy can handle it as a family. It’s a dig at Gina not being family. Please, grow up, Michael. It’s not becoming.
Hannah is all nerves based on her fidgeting, and it’s enough for Amy to check in with her again. But they talk about the case.
Hannah gets a text from Edie, the HR lady, demanding that Hannah see her. But they have to check on Mr. Bell again.
He starts to code, and Amy tells Hannah to help, but Hannah freezes. Amy takes over when Hannah isn’t responsive. Hannah appears to be having a panic attack and backs out of the room as Amy and others work on Mr. Bell to revive him.
Hannah runs out of the room.
We get a flashback to three years ago as the clock ticks down for one of Hannah’s final exams in medical school. She’s motioning like she’s writing, but she seems to be in a trance. It’s clear she’s struggling mentally.
When the proctor tells her to put her pencil down, Hannah says she needs more time. She starts yelling, bangs the table, and freaks out, startling those around her. It looks like a “break.”
Amy finds Hannah in a non-call room, and she’s crying, saying she can’t do this anymore, even though it’s all she ever wanted. Amy tells her how smart and capable she is, and Hannahe tells her that she knows about loss and not forgiving oneself.
She gives Hannah this great pep talk, but it’s tinged with the fact that Hannah is ruining her.
Sonya observes that Noah’s sister seems overwhelmed when she’s on the phone about returning to work. She’s super young, barely out of her teens.
Edie calls Hannah in and tells her what Michael asked her to do. She says she’s leaving the deceased doctors off the list and warns Hannah that if whatever is happening to Amy is happening to her, then she needs to stop it. But WHY IS SHE EVEN COSIGNING THIS? FIRE HER TOO!
Mr. Bell wakes up and sees green. He mentions the pills that he takes. Amy tells the medical staff that no one around him should be back in the room.
Michael talks to the FBI, and they determined that the messages sent to Katie were deepfakes. They strip the voices and hear Charlie’s voice.
Amy tells Hannah that someone is poisoning Mr. Bell and that he has congestive heart failure. They’re interrupted by Michael and the FBI. They dismiss Hannah and update her about the recordings.
We flash back to three years ago. Charlie visits Hannah in a mental health facility. She checked herself in, and Charlie poked fun at her. Their mother knows that Hannah is there, but can’t deal with it. She wants to stay until she gets well, she says.
Hannah calls Charlie and leaves him a message to talk about the FBI getting involved.
Amy is shocked to hear the message sent to Katie, and Michael tells her about Katie going to Gina. She leaves Katie a message.
Mr. Bell tells Amy about Gloria giving him medicine. She used Freddi, the son’s med, to Bell.
Hannah tries to pry information from Amy about the FBI, which seems to give Amy pause.
TJ shows Joan scans and sees that Noah needs surgery. She’s impressed with his catch. Sonya hears that Noah didn’t tell his sister he was sick because he didn’t want to stress her out, which concerns her.
Amy confronts Gloaria about the food, but Gloaria says Freddie and Pam were still in the house.
TJ accompanies Joan in the surgical procedure, and she’s again impressed with how good he is. She seems impressed by him and maybe wants to mentor him.
Sonya talks to the teacher. He mentions that Noah’s sister is great, attentive, and well cared for. She was headed to Stanford when she stopped to take care of her siblings.
There’s an aunt, and Sonya wants to reach out to her because Sonya feels the sister is too overwhelmed.
Amy talks to Pam about Freddie possibly being the one poisoning his father. She talks about their childhood, but she turned on Freddie quickly, and she mentioned the specific drug Mr. Bell overdosed on, despite Amy not saying it.
Noah’s surgery went fine. And Alyssa, his sister, is angry when her aunt shows up because they called her. Her aunt wants to take care of the kids, and Alyssa won’t resist.
Essentially, Sonya, Alyssa’s aunt, and Joan are trying to persuade Alyssa to let the aunt take care of the kids. Alyssa isn’t hearing it, though, and storms out.
IN flashbacks, Hannah is talking to the therapist. She talks about someone breaking her dad and pushing him to that point, and she wants revenge. She gets a bit violent again and checks herself out instead of getting proper help.
Hannah calls Charlie again and gets worked up when she sees the police come in and take Pam in for questioning. They explain what happened to Freddie, and he’s confused. From what he says, Gloria is the one who picks up his prescription, and she’s the only one outside his doctor who knows he took it.
Gloria and Pam were in cahoots. Amy lies to Gloria, saying Pam told the police everything. Gloria confesses to Albert, saying that Pam made her do it.
Sonya talks to Alysssa. She explains her position and why she thinks it’s a better idea for her brothers and sisters to live with their aunt. Sonya explains that she can still attend a state school not far from her aunt’s house, see her siblings, and pursue her education.
She tells Alyssa that she cares because young women have to stick together and fight for each other. OK, but where is that energy when she’s constantly coming after Amy, then? Anyway.
Joan tries to lure TJ into surgery because he’s great at it.
Hannah compliments Amy on solving it. They talk, but then Amy has another memory of Bryan yelling at her. Hannah notices she has a memory and looks paranoid again.
Michael and Amy talk to Katie. Then Michael shows Amy the list. She notes that Brian Clark isn’t there, searches for his name, sees an obituary, and realizes it’s Hannah’s father.
Hannah gets home, and she’s relieved that her brother is still there. She goes to tell him about what’s happening, but he’s passed out from an overdose. Pills are everywhere. She tries to wake him and shake him. He apparently tried to take his own life, not unlike their father.
