It’s about time we got a viable suspect.
Sure, with four episodes left to go, our favorite detectives are probably going down the wrong path.
But after some entertaining detours, Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Episode 6 finally gave us a valid reason to suspect one of the billionaires. We’re now accelerating toward the finale.
I Knew Charles’ New “Lover” Was Going To Be A Problem, But Not To This Extent
Charles being catfished was obvious.
He was talking to someone who didn’t show photos of their entire face, and that chin he proudly showed Mabel screamed stock footage (or AI) to me.
That wasn’t the twist, though. Only Murders In The Building Season 5 practically screamed it from the rooftops when Charles lost his phone in the first place.
But the fact that the dating app is part of the same company that owns the security cameras was far less predictable.
In hindsight, it makes sense.
This season has been about the three ordinary people (four, counting Detective Williams) versus the three billionaires, whose wealth seems to give them the power to silence anyone who gets in their way.
Those three truly are the new mob, as Oliver pointed out during the Only Murders In the Building Season 5 premiere.
They’re buying up everything and using their monopoly power to censor the podcast and delete footage.
This story serves as a poignant mirror to what’s happening in America, with news and entertainment firmly in the hands of a limited number of companies run by billionaires.

These three are likely to cover for each other, so that nobody can be held accountable. However, it is possible that our detectives will be able to turn the billionaires against each other somehow.
Still, I doubt that Sebastian is the actual killer.
If this were the penultimate episode, sure, but not when we are only about 2/3 of the way through.
Our Detectives Have Come A Long Way When It Comes To Donna
She used to find them a nuisance, as real detectives tend to do with amateur sleuths, especially those that broadcast clues to the entire world via podcast.
But Only Murders In The Building Season 5 is different.
This time, Donna and the detectives are working together, even though she has to push them not to sabotage the case. I love to see it!
After solving four other cases, the trio has proven they’re worth listening to and have won Donna’s respect (somewhat, anyway), which changes the dynamic a bit.
It was fun for them to all talk to Howard and LEST-R 2.0 together, and I especially loved Donna bossing Mabel around and calling her “Mora” as if she were a cop working under her.
Just Because Mabel and Althea Made Up Doesn’t Mean Althea Isn’t Still A Suspect
Okay, so Althea now seems more human.
She was jealous of Mabel’s life in the city and tried to emulate it, which is more relatable than her usual shallow nonsense.

That doesn’t make me any less suspicious of her, though.
First of all, the entire immature shoe-throwing incident suggests that this is someone who lacks emotional control.
I don’t know of any reason yet why Althea might have lost her temper with Lester and hurt him, and I doubt she’s connected to Nicky’s death.
Still, I can’t help wondering if there’s more to her decision to move into the penthouse than a desire to imitate what Mabel had done.
She absolutely could be this season’s eccentric neighbor who is a red herring, but there also could be more to her than meets the eye.
I’m still not a fan of hers, though it was funny when everyone in the elevator except for Mabel was dancing to her music.
That shoe sequence annoyed me, and Althea in general gets on my nerves, but it would be strong drama if Mabel finally allowed Althea back into her life only to find out that she’s a killer.
That’s usually Charles’ role, but I wouldn’t mind if Only Murders In The Building switched it up.
I could do without any more of Althea’s hit song, Sofia’s adult sons who act like kindergarteners, or that damn robot, though!
Loretta’s Return Added Poginancy… But What The Heck, Lester’s Widow?
Only Murders In The Building Season 5 had been moving along fine without Loretta, so I was fine with her staying off-screen and being in a long-distance relationship with Oliver.
Still, her devastation over losing everything in that fire was poignant, and her visit to Brooklyn with Oliver was even more so.
It’s not surprising that Oliver grew up to be someone who is always looking for attention.
His adoptive parents dismissed his passion for theatre as impractical and acted like he should be grateful to be taken in instead of wanting them to watch his play.
Oliver’s backstory and the walk through Flatbush were among my favorite scenes in the episode, but did anyone else find that scene in the off-limits room confusing?
Lorraine (side note: why do these two women have almost the same name?) seemed like a true mobster’s wife when she came into that room with the dagger, only to quickly become BFF’s with Loretta over their shared losses.
She seemed like a different character in that scene.
Maybe that was meant to throw suspicion on her — she seemed more familiar with the ways of the mob than she should be — but it threw me off.
