-State Senator Erica Humphrey Miller is shot and killed by a rifle at a parade. Jane, Maura, and the team investigate.
-Erica was investigating an area where small children were contracting cancer. She learned it was connected to a factory that was given a $2 million grant to handle their take home toxins.
-Erica’s sister, Jennifer took bribes to hide the factories non-compliance. She then killed Erica to keep it quiet.
-Cassey returns and is able to walk. He and Jane reunite but he’s headed back to Afghanistan to help other soldiers. They vow to build a real relationship when he returns.
-Maura is recovering from donating her kidney to half-sister Cailin. She’s depressed because Hope hasn’t contacted her since the surgery but she does make contact with Cailin and they two begin to bond.
-Cailin gives Maura a necklace that Paddy Doyle gave to Hope when she was 18. Paddy is about to stand trial on 15 counts of murder.
