Buffy is waiting for a vampire to rise when Angel surprises her. The two bicker and stop a vampire from rising. Buffy falls into an open casket and realizes the dead body was dragged from the grave.

Giles is practicing how to ask Jenny Calendar out on a date.

A creepy student, Eric, takes photos of female students in the hallway. Willow and another science nerd Chris bond over their projects for the science fair. Cordelia signs up with a project about tomatoes.

Willows discovers the dead body in the grave belonged to one of three dead cheerleaders during a car crash. Giles, Buffy, Willow and Xander decide to go to the graveyard to check on the other dead bodies. Cordelia can't go as she has cheerleading practice.

Willows tells Buffy about Darryl Epps, Cordelia's dead ex-boyfriend and former star of the Sunnydale High football team. 

The Scoobies dig up one of the graves and finds an empty grave.

Back at Sunnydale High, someone follows Cordelia to her car. She runs and hides in the trash can until Angel finds her. Cordelia discovers severed body parts in the trash.

The Scoobies deduce the grave robbers are students at Sunnydale High. They break into Eric's and Chris's lockers; it has evidence of the experiments. Their project is bringing a girl back to life.

Giles stumbles over his words trying to ask Jenny out. He fails miserably. She asks him out instead to the football game.

After seeing with a press person, Giles reveals the body parts in the trash included three heads. Chris and Eric need a more recent head/brain to make the body viable.

It's revealed they brought Darryl back from the dead. Darryl begs Chris to finish the experiment and create a bride for him. Chris reluctantly agrees and Darryl choices Cordelia's head to the be the head of the body.

Buffy visits Chris's home and finds a dazed mother watching over old football tapes. She finds the lab in the experience and, before zombie Darryl kills her, Buffy sneaks out of the place.

Eric and Chris try to kidnap Cordelia, but Buffy saves her in time. She convinces Chris to not murder someone for the experiment.

Darryl kidnaps Cordelia.

Buffy stops Eric from cutting off Cordelia's head. Xander moves Cordelia out of the burning room; Darryl decides to stay with the half-finished dead girl body and perishes in the fire.

Giles apologizes for the events of their first date. Jenny confirms they will have a second date.

Cordelia thanks Xander for saving her, but he dismisses her.

Buffy walks Angel home after a nice patrolling the graveyard.
