On Chicago Justice Season 1 Episode 11, an alderman is killed in an apparent political crime, as he was a proponent of transporting oil in trains, which environmentalists protested in a series of bizarre ways. However, it turns out that the protesters had nothing to do with his murder at all and it was a freak accident.

The real killer is a woman named Jane, who was warned by a kidnapper to follow directions or she would never see her daughter again. She was afraid to stop after hitting Chris because she thought her daughter would be killed.

It turns out Emma was never kidnapped at all, and Jane's ex-husband was playing a cruel prank on her. Stone attempts to charge Ted with felony murder, but his case hinges on Ted threatening Emma with bodily harm and there's no evidence of that.

After the jury deadlocks, Stone is in need of a confession or he won't be able to retry the case. When he finds out Jeffries wants him to charge Jane with reckless homicide, he uses that to his advantage to get the confession he needs.
