Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 2 is all about patient advocacy.

When Will and Stevie see a 17-year-old patient with Addison's disease and high blood sugar, Will thinks the boy's mother is overdosing him on purpose while Stevie doubts it. When they confront Marie, she gets angry, but Brandon admits he took extra medication himself because he doesn't want to join a clinical trial -- he wants to go to college in London. Marie insists he participate in the trial anyway.

Will is on Brandon's side while Stevie is on Marie's, and when Brandon is upset that he can't make decisions for himself, Will suggests he get emancipated. Stevie accuses Will of minding other people's business when he should have left well enough alone, but Will fires back that Brandon is their patient, not Marie, and it's his job to advocate for him.

Elsewhere, Charles and Scott treat a woman, Krista, who is a UNICEF negotiator and overdosed on sleeping pills. Krista claims it was an accident, but Charles thinks she is suffering from PTSD and burnout. He and Scott convince her to check into the psych ward, but there are no beds available and Archer wants Krista's room freed up for another patient. THe only option is the state mental facility, where she will be treated like a criminal during transport and afterward. Scott doesn't like it and neither does Krista, who accuses the doctors of lying to her and plotting to have her committed.

And finally, when Archer shoots down Vanessa's idea about how to treat a motorcycle accident victim, she asks Marcel for advice and he takes her side. But when Vanessa stands up to Archer, he gets upset... and Maggie tells Marcel he had no business influencing Vanessa to do such a thing.
