Recap

Rita watches bad television while she bemoans the team’s betrayal. She reluctantly gets up to answer the door.

There’s no one at the door, but a poster of a Rita Farr Retrospective event mysteriously lands by her foot.

Jane is in her bed trying to figure out how to find a new purpose. She tries to forget about the puzzle piece pile and listen to music but fails. She returns to the puzzle to discover the pieces are all different sizes now.

She finds one piece with an eye on it. She asks if it’s Shelley [Byron], the eye lights up, and a fog starts to engulf her. She throws the piece away before she’s lost to the fog.

Vic walks into a restaurant and greets his friends. They ask about the lack of tech.

They begin to reminisce about their youth together as Detroiticon. Deric pulls out a robot they created, Mr. Invincible.

Larry tries to cook a meal but Keeg keeps tweaking the electrical lights around him. Larry tells Keeg he’s going to just ignore him from now on.

Rouge joins him and suggests that Keeg is gone for good and Larry should just accept it.

Larry advises her to make amends with Rita before trying to advise him on his life.

Rita is by herself in the Cloverton Art House waiting for her retrospective to start. The first show starts and a sentient green mist appears behind Rita.

Rita says she smells cotton candy just before being surrounded by the mist and passing out. The mist heads straight for the screen.

In the restaurant, Vic and his friends split a pizza and talk. The guys express their condolences about Vic’s mom’s passing. Vic tries to explain about talking with his mom. It gets awkward.

One of the friends gets irritated that the whole conversation is about Vic. He points out Vic hasn’t even asked Deric about his life and what he’s been doing.

Deric shares that he’s been teaching kids to build robots at a program he set up in Detroit. Vic offers to volunteer, but Deric says he can depend on the other guys so he’s good.

A laser tag competition begins. Vic wants them to tag back their old title. They go for it.

Rita wakes up and realizes to her horror that she’s in her first movie, Secret Rendezvous.

After her handsome film fiance enters with a giant gemstone pendant gift, RIta gives in to the fantasy. A drop of something liquid flows into the gemstone she wears.

Jane enters the library where Cliff is sitting. She starts to explain how The Fog pleasured her but he doesn’t want to talk about orgasms or feelings. Larry, on the other side of the library, snaps at them to just be quiet. The house alarm goes off.

Rouge enters and commences a team meeting. She wants the team to focus on TRUST.

Rouge’s first step is for all of them to support Rita by attending the film retrospective. Jane and Cliff immediately think it sounds fishy.

The others convince Larry to come with them.

They arrive to the empty theatre. Rita is still in the film, making up her lines as she narrates the part she’s playing. Larry notes the lines aren’t right. Rita's scene partner, Oliver, begs her to get through the scene and then starts choking. He disappears.

Rouge realizes Rita’s physically in the film. They watch as a mist engulfs her and she disappears. The mist reappears in the theatre and everyone except Rouge passes out. Rouge transforms into a bird and flies away.

Another Rita Farr film begins – The Haunting of White Manor – and Rita wanders a corridor with a candelabra. She announces that this movie gave her nightmares and she is not amused. The gemstone on her necklace gains more liquid.

Larry awakens in Secret Rendezvous at the gazebo. He recognizes it and identifies the movie. A man approaches and introduces himself as Oliver. Larry refutes that statement. Oliver asks Larry about being bandaged all the time.

Oliver admits that he’s not who he says he is. Instead, he’s just another soul trapped in the film by a creature called Dr. Janus. She has ordered all her captives to get Rita to emote as much as possible.

Not-Oliver offers to work with Larry to find a way to save Rita and free themselves.

Rouge returns to Doom Manor by herself, upset by how things have turned out. She examines the flyer and notices that the retrospective is presented by Dr. Janus Productions. She recognizes the name.

Rouge finds a file on Dr. Janus in Niles’s Bureau files. Dr. Janus is an emotional vampire. All the information on how to combat her has been redacted.

Jane and Cliff are wandering through White Manor. They are frightened by a boy appearing suddenly and run to hide in a closet.

The laser tag competition starts. When Vic sends Deric in, stating he’s got his back, Deric mutters about Vic leaving. This starts a conversation. They lose the laser tag match.

In the closet, Cliff offers to talk orgasms with Jane as a way for making up for blowing her off earlier.

Jane tells him about The Fog and how it made her feel. She doesn’t want to give in to it because she’s concerned about Kay. Cliff advises her to focus on her own feelings and forget about Kay.

The closet doors suddenly open, startling them. Larry and Not-Oliver are there.

The creepy kid sneaks up on Rita. She reminds him that he was a pants-pooping kid when they made the movie. She demands to leave. The kid advises Rita to do what “she” says or things will get worse.

She demands explanations and claims things can’t get worse. The kid says it’s her friends she should worry about. Suddenly the mist is there again and she faints.

At Doom Manor, Rouge comes to the conclusion there’s no way to save the team. She drinks heavily while accounting for all her actions, past and present.

She leaves to get more booze and Keeg emerges from the electrical system to examine the information she’s left on the table.

Rita awakens in a sci-fi film she made – Spartacus 452. Larry, Cliff, Jane, and Not-Oliver arrive in retro outfits. Larry starts to introduce Not-Oliver but realizes he doesn’t know his real name. Not-Oliver tells them to call him, “Mr. 104,” a reference to the periodic table and Rutherfordium.

When Larry explains Dr. Janus wants Rita’s emotions and is collecting it in the necklace, Rita states making Spartacus 452 was purely for the money and she had no emotion for the role. The rest of the team is immediately teleported to a cell on the other side of a bridge to “up the stakes.”

Rita accuses Mr. 104 of trapping her friends. He denies doing anything and introduces Dr. Janus, who emerges from behind a rock.

Mr. 104 snaps his fingers and flames spring up in the moat around the cell. That, he takes credit for.

In the cell, Jane discovers she can’t contact any of the alts in the Underground. Cliff is unable to break the bars of the cell. They realize in Dr. Janus’s construct, they are powerless.

Rita asks why they are attacking her. Dr. Janus explains Rita has something that isn’t hers and they want it back.

Rita crosses the bridge over the flames making an impassioned speech about her love for her friends. The necklace gemstone fills up completely and Dr. Janus applauds the performance. The necklace flies off Rita’s neck to Dr. Janus. She looks to Mr. 104 and states, ‘Immortus will rise.’

Dr. Janus walks away. Rita resumes her attempt to save the team but falls through the bridge slats. Mr. 104 grabs the bridge support and holds it up. Keeg arrives, melting the illusion. Keeg looks to Mr. 104 and flies into him, shattering the hallucination and everyone wakes up in the theatre, except Rita is still unconscious.

Vic and the guys leave the arcade/restaurant. His farewell to Deric is cool and awkward. Deric walks away but returns to give Vic the Mr. Invincible robot according to the terms of their shared custody agreement.

Vic is back in his room at Doom Manor, looking at Mr. Invincible, when the team returns, waking Rouge up from a drunken slumber. Cliff carries a still-unconscious Rita in.

Rouge: You might want to consider that Keeg has just gone. I mean, he did leave you in the future. So, chances are, he’s gone for good.
Larry: Is that the summation of my life? Am I just meant to be alone?

Find a new purpose. How? What does that even mean?
