Law & Order: SVU Season 18 Episode 6 focuses on the death of a transgender woman named Eva. Eva is volently assaulted while in a public restroom and the only witnesses are a mother and chlid. The mother doesn't want her child involved and thinks if Eva had used the men's bathroom none of this would have happened.

The investigation quickly leads to a rap star with the stage name Hype. Hype performs songs that include transphobic and homophobic language. When his DNA is found under Eva's skin, he tells the detectives that Eva is his girlfriend. The day of the attack, they were supposed to meet for lunch but he chickened out of seeing her in public and left. Meanwhile, Eva dies, making this a murder case.

Hype's producer, Cash, is quickly implicated, but when they go to make an arrest, Fin and Rollins find that Cash has been killed and Hype is holding the gun. Hype is arrested and claims self-defense, refusing to admit publicly that he loved Eva. Benson is frustrated, thinking that this killing was justified, but Hype won't make a deal if it means admitting he was involved with a transgender woman.
