Law & Order: SVU Season 18 Epiode 17 is about fake news of a sex trafficking ring that leads to an investigation of a real sex trafficking ring.

When someone starts spreading rumors online that Congressman Bolton runs an underage sex trafficking ring out of the basement of a Chinese restaurant, he calls in SVU. The owner is getting death threats and Bolton's career is being ruined and he wants SVU to prove the allegations are false.

SVU proves this easily, even arresting a gunman who was about to open fire in the restaurant, but readers of Endless Truth.com refuse to believe it and have this huge conspiracy theory going. In order to prove their case, they falsely tie Bolton to a real pedophilia sex trafficking operation.

In an effort to find the trafficked girls, SVU subpoenas the site owner's records and he retaliates with fake news stories about Benson and Rollins being part of the sex trafficking business.

After SVU shuts down the real sex trafficking ring, Benson warns Duka not to threaten her or her son again. He refuses to take responsibility for the fake news but retracts the story. However, a tragedy occurs because of his stories.
