On Law & Order Season 21 Episode 2, the ADAs struggle to prove a wealthy CEO killed her fiance despite a defense that might be controversial to contest.
Law & Order Season 21 Episode 2 revolves around a woman who has built a fortune around a web of lies.
When Kyle Morrison is found dead in Central Park, his fiancee and business partner claims to know nothing about the death or who might have done it. Soon, however, the cops' investigation leads to the discovery of a cover-up. A man threatened Kyle after the company's at-home cancer screening test gave a false negative, causing the man's wife to ignore uterine cancer symptoms until she was Stage 4, and Nina knew the tests were inaccurate but wouldn't take them off the market.
The cops' theory is that Nina killed Kyle to keep him quiet, but with only circumstantial evidence, Price is reluctant to prosecute. Dixon doesn't care. She wants Nina off the streets and has her arrested regardless of what the DA's office plans to do.
At trial, the judge rejects Price's plan to call witnesses who were injured by the faulty tests. And soon, the DA's office has another problem: Nina has changed her defense strategy and now claims she was abused by Kyle and killed him because she feared for her life.
McCoy advises the ADAs to poke holes in Nina's story on cross-examination, but Samantha is reluctant because she doesn't want to damage the progress women have made toward being believed when they make claims about being abused. And with Nina gaining the jury's sympathy, McCoy thinks it may be time for a deal. Kyle's father is angry about that idea, which McCoy says is irrelevant, but Nolan thinks he can convince the jury that Nina is a liar.
