The court hears a case of a purse snatching. The witness is a woman who uses extremely descriptive language to give her account. Abby recognizes her as Remecca, the host of a podcast she listens to, “The Social Archeologist”.

While they confer, the defendant escapes with Olivia’s purse.

Abby gets Remecca to record her voicemail message. She pitches an idea for her podcast, centering on the people who work in the night court.

Remecca is interested in learning about Dan’s journey from prosecutor to public defender. He is reluctant at first, but when she explains he’d get to talk about himself for two hours for an audience of millions, he changes his mind.

They sit down to start recording for the podcast. Remecca is interested specifically in Dan’s run for City Council when he lost to a dead man despite buying many people’s votes. (Reference to Night Court-1984 Season 1 Episode 6 - Once in Love with Harry).

Dan realizes he’s about to admit to a crime. He makes some excuses and gets away from the microphone.

Abby finds Dan in the corridor and plays him a recording of her voice. It sounds like a chipmunk (or Bernadette from The Big Bang Theory).

When she tells Dan that Remecca is interviewing her next, Dan insists that she needs to ban the podcast crew from the courtroom, citing some potentially problematic issues from his past.

Abby refuses. She wants to talk about the empathic approach to justice their court is taking and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

In the cafeteria, Olivia’s trying desperately to get Remecca’s attention so she can be on the podcast. Gurgs and Neil come by. Neil says he’s striking out too. Gurgs recommends they pretend to be having a forbidden office romance to up the drama. When Remecca seems to be intrigued by their shenanigans, Olivia decides to go all in.

Abby finds Remecca on the phone in her chambers and realizes they’re both from Skaneateles, NY, when she hears Remecca use the phrase “dish-to-pass” instead of potluck.

When they start the interview, Remecca wants to talk about Dan. She accuses Abby of manipulating the system to help Dan get back on his feet because he was friends with her father.

Abby gets uncomfortable and falls off her chair.

Olivia brings Neil a portfolio with a full write-up on their fake relationship. When Neil asks more relationship-centric questions, Olivia gets frantic and leaves.

Abby tells Dan that she thinks Remecca’s trying to take her down with him. Gurgs overhears and assesses how bad the situation is. Abby decides to go talk to Remecca, betting their shared geographic history will build bridges. Gurgs and Dan, left behind together, come up with an alternative solution.

They find an old metal detector gate in storage. Dan’s plan is to bring it up and use it to fry the podcast equipment.

Abby stocks up on Upstate New York foods and drinks for her talk with Remecca. She notices the metal detector set up in the courtroom and demands to know what’s going on.

He explains his plan. Neil and Olivia come in, arguing like a couple, crossing multiple times through the gate. Once they leave, Remecca and her audio engineer come in through the other doors, having overheard both Dan and Abby’s plans.

Abby tries to reason with Remecca who is unrepentant about her investigative journalism. Dan offers to give a tell-all interview if Remecca leaves Abby out of it altogether. Gurgs also bargains for giant mattresses that come in tiny boxes.

Remecca agrees.

Neil and Olivia are discussing how they aren’t a good fake couple. Remecca approaches them to be on her relationship podcast. Olivia jumps at the opportunity.

As Abby and Dan anxiously await Remecca’s interview to air, Gurgs runs in to announce that Remecca’s been canceled and her podcast dropped because someone discovered she used to be a shock jock from Upstate.

Abby had figured out Remecca’s past life but hadn’t made it public. It turns out it was the audio engineer who did it to get out from under Remecca’s shadow. Also, he appreciated Abby treating him with kindness.
