Malcolm Bright is working a case with the FBI. He moves in on a killer and tries to reason with him using his expertise as a profiler. A sheriff kills the suspect and Malcolm attacks the sheriff for a wrongful shoot.

Malcolm is fired from the FBI because of his actions and his mental illnesses and their fear he's like his serial killer dad.

When he was a kid, his father was arrested for killing multiple people and told him that he and malcolm were the same.

His mother is elated that he's no longer working with killers and investigating murders.

Malcolm saw his father for ten years while his father was locked away. When he joined the FBI he stopped.

An old friend who works at the police department enlists malcolm's help for a car. Malcolm deduces that the killer is a copycat of his father.

. Gil wants malcolm to work with him, but he worries about how well Malcolm is doing.

They track down the initial suspect to his apartment. Malcolm, Dani, and JT. The suspect is really a victim. He's strapped to a chair with a bomb which JT and Malcolm handle while Dani takes off after the real suspect.

Malcolm's solution was to cut off the guy's hand to free him and get out before it blew up. He did.

Later Malcolm has night terrors again and attacks Dani in his sleep while at the station.

He finds drawings that belong to his father. He goes to visit his father for the first time in 10 years to discuss the copycat. His father is reluctant to help him until he threatens to never return.

Malcolm figures out it's one of his dad's patients. He goes to a party to interview the suspect and save the next victim.

The killer is going to kill his wife the same way as Malcolm's father The Surgeon. Malcolm stops him by telling him the truth about who he is while in front of Dani. He tells the killer to kill him instead. It almost happens when the cops come to rescue them.

The other cops ask Gil what his connection is to malcolm. He reveals that Malcom called the cops on his father as a kid and that he saved Gil from being killed by The Surgeon.

Malcolm visits his father one last time and his father proposes he teaches Malcolm everything to know about serial killers.
