After the attack by the Trivantians, Baba, Lu, and Ranger survive. Bow Lion is not so lucky. In Pennsa, Maghra has captured the rogue witch hunters who burned a man alive. As Queen, she is faced with the task of deciding their fate.

Disbanding witch hunters becomes an uphill task, so Tamacti Jun is brought in. In the meantime, Lord Harlan and the ambassador from Trivante have rekindled their romance.

Maghra is also grappling with deciding what to do with Sibeth. From the north, Trivantians are pressuring her to give them Sibeth; their blood ties are making her waver, and Sibeth is trying to make a queen out of Maghra.

On the other hand, Wren has witnessed the destruction the new weapon is capable of. She also knows who for it is intended. She can’t just sit by and let this happen, considering that her ex-girlfriend--and possibly the love of her life--will be a victim, thus losing her.

Kofun makes a surprising discovery. His son—Wolffe--is blind. He doesn’t reveal this to anyone.

Baba makes an appearance in Pennsa. Despite his best efforts to warn them of the threat that they are facing, too much is happening, and admittedly, he doesn’t take the best approach.

His actions put an already fragile peace treaty at risk.

Finally, he discovers that a lot has happened while he is away. He discovers that Kofun has a son, Sibeth is the mother, and Sibeth murdered Paris. Enraged, he goes to find Sibeth in lock up, only to discover that she has escaped.
