Melanie makes her way to the weather station but the volt sled becomes stuck and she has to leave it behind to walk the batteries to the station.
She manages to get her suit recharged and start up the solar array. She finds three dead bodies at the station.
When she returns to get her rations and the volt sled, she finds it all buried under an avalanche.
She hallucinates Wilford who taunts her. She remembers celebrating the completion of the train with him.
She uplinks to the first weather balloon. Her biscuit disappears.
In another flashback, she argues with Wilford over the importance of scientists over jackboots. He threatens to leave her family behind.
Ten days and her food has run out. She hallucinates Layton who comments on the hunger in the Tail and reminds her that cannibalism is always an option.
She discovers there are rats and traps one so she can track it to its lair. She finds a geothermal vent behind a wall where the rats nest and she cooks them up for food.
Now a hallucination of Alex keeps her company. In a flashback, she recalls the events of the night Snowpiercer departed and how she had to make the decision to leave with Alex in order to save the train from Wilford.
As the last weather balloon goes up, a windstorm damages the station's satellite tower. She repairs it and recovers the data and creates the climate model and then waits for Snowpiercer's return.
There is no response by radio from Snowpiercer. She gives up hope and then feels the vibration of the train's approach. When she gets to the track, the train is going too fast for her to board and it passes her, with Alex in the back window.
