Miss Bruce has big plans to win Atlanta's annual hair show. Simone overhears her foster father, Otis, downstairs as he applies for a job at the salon and tells Star. By the time the two girls get downstairs, he has disappeared. 

Alexandra tells Derek they girls will be performing Gladys Knight music at the hair style while Miss Bruce styles, and invites him to come hear them sing. The trafficking victim who showed up at Jahil's house tells him about someone called the Coyote. He gives her a fake ID so she can start a new life.

Jahil tells the girls they were selected for the next round of the music festival. They need to record a live performance for the next round, and Star suggests they record their Gladys Knight performance at the hair show that night.  

Star hooks up with Hunter. Women from rival salon Scissor Sisters bully Carlotta at the hair show. The girls meet Gladys Knight before going onstage to perform while Miss Bruce styles live.

After the performance, Star recognizes Otis in the audience and begs Alexandra to get Simone back to the salon. Star calls Cotton for help, but Otis sneaks up on her, hits the phone out of her hand and refuses to leave without Simone. 

Alexandra tells Simone that Otis is there. Star accuses Otis of raping Simone. Carlotta walks in on Star crying after her encounter with Otis and demands to know what he did. After Star tells Carlotta the whole story, Carlotta tells her she'll handle Otis. 

Carlotta tells Jahil about Otis and they go after him together. Simone confronts Otis in the parking garage with a gun she stole from Carlotta. Later, Star finds Otis' body in a car with a gunshot wound to the chest. 

Carlotta and Star find Simone crying with Carlotta's gun. Miss Bruce wins first prize at the hair show. The girls go on for one more performance The trafficking victim looks on as Jahil buries Otis' body.  Simone denies killing Otis, but if she didn't do it, who did?
