Ethan Carver, who works for R.D., tells Diane that instead of playing Devil’s advocate on a physician’s assisted euthanasia case, that Reese Dipple wants her to take over the case. Diane is upset because she is pro euthanasia. Diane takes the case, because she doesn’t want to lose R.D. as a client and because Louis Canning, the opposing council’s tactics, make her angry.
During the case she learns that R.D.’s team will be using this case to increase malpractice insurance as a way to stop doctor’s from performing euthanasia. She fights the case by saying that the doctor who provided her the drugs didn’t inform Alexa about a promising new treatment and therefore she didn’t have all the information to make an informed choice. Unfortunately, Canning shows an online blog that Alexa commented on concerning the trail at Duke University, therefore she did know about it but chose euthanasia anyway.
