On The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 13, Billy is on the scene of a recent drive by, but is unable to identify the victim who is found with $1500 and marijuana on him. At the station Max gets the victims fingerprints back and he is identified as Miguel Santos a promising young athlete. According to Miguel's rap sheet he was only arrested once for vandalism and he had stopped going to school six months ago. When they bring in Miguel's father he is adamant he son was not involved in anything illegal and he was a good kid.

As they investigate Miguel more they find out he was actually going to a prestigious prep school without his father knowing and had a full scholarship thanks to being an amazing hockey player. While investigating the school they find out administration is not going to be cooperative so Laura and Jake go under cover to investigate motive. While investigating at the gala they find out Miguel had been reprimanded for sexual harassment, but when they talk to the girl he supposedly harassed she clears his name and says he had nothing to do with it. As Billy looks into the case more he finds out another promising hockey player was the one who sexually harassed the young girl and when Laura takes over investigating she finds out his girlfriend, Tracy, was so determined to go to the same school as her boyfriend that she was the one who killed Miguel. It turns out she planted the money and drugs on him to make it look like it was gang related.
