The Parker father arrived in town and Liv and Luke told him that they refused to merge and that maybe Jo could try to beat Kai. He didn't accept this and was about to force them to merge when Tyler jumped in and knocked him out.

Luke came up with a solution to try and merge with Kai himself. He said he would do anything to save his sisters, especially Liv. They did the ceremony and Kai won. After Luke was announced dead, Kai gloated and disappeared.

Meanwhile, Colin showed up after Caroline gave him her blood and it went badly. After rushing both Colin and Liz to the hospital, Jo took scans. The scans showed that the vampire blood actually made the tumors grow more.

Damon got Kai to absorb the magic from the vampire blood that was in Liz's body. Obviously Kai didn't mention that it would take a toll on her heart. Liz had a heart attack, briefly flatlined, but magically lived.

Liz told Stefan that he needs to be there for Caroline when she passes. Elena decided life was too short to live without Damon.
