Recap

  • We start in Topeka at a bonfire, and a guy sees his dad telling him it’s time to go home. The dad grows vines and takes over the son.

  • John, Mary, Latika, and Carlos show up at a warehouse in Savannah and see dead bodies, zombies everywhere, but it’s another dead end for Samuel. Mary finds a shotgun shell on the ground belonging to her dad, realizing that he left it behind on purpose to stay in contact with her.

  • The zombies come back to life, and the gang starts fighting them.

  • Mary finds a newspaper article about what happened in Topeka, a missing child. Carlos wants to keep finding information on the Akrida, but Mary wants to find her dad.

  • John confesses to Mary that he doesn’t know what to do as a hunter, knowing that his dad wants him to follow in his footsteps.

  • When John gets home, Millie is furious that she hasn’t heard from him, worried that he’s turning into his father. John thinks that she doesn’t have faith in him.

  • Once in Topeka, Mary and John use fake IDs with completely “real” names. They find out that the kid, Barry, was at a commune, and his friend says he was taken by a monster.

  • The four get to the commune and start their questioning without being too obvious.

  • Ada talks to Millie and admits to having worked with Henry. She gives Millie an address and phone number for the hotel where John and the others are.

  • Another member of the commune, Clyde, gets taken by the monster.

  • John is still weary about his skills as a hunter, even though Mary thinks he’s good enough.

  • Latika and Carlos find Layla, who is in a daze after Clyde is taken, shutting down the gang’s theory about Clyde being the shapeshifter. Latika figures the shapeshifter they’re looking for is something completely different, but Mary doesn’t want to hear it.

  • Latika calls Ada for help with a flower she found that could have some connection to the monster.

  • Carlos and Mary talk about how more relaxed she should be and to take pointers from the commune. Latika finds them and shows them a book about a woman that would punish her kids for their disobedience by chopping them up and using their remains to feed her flower garden.

  • Mary realizes that John could be in danger, and meanwhile, Millie shows up at his hotel room. Or does she? She tells him some things about Henry and what he thinks of John to get him riled up, but when she brings up something that he never told her, John realizes that it’s not his mother. By the time the others show up to the room, John’s gone.

  • John wakes up trapped by vines, but also with the others that were also taken, as Mary, Carlos, and Latika figure out how to defeat the monster.

  • She comes back as Barry’s father, and while distracted, John gets free and frees Clyde, but the monster turns into Millie and tells John she has to punish him. The two of them fight.

  • Mary, Carlos, and Latika find John, and John and Mary defeat her as Carlos and Latika release Barry.

  • Once back in Lawrence, John introduces Mary to Millie, who’s happy she got her son back home in one piece. John apologizes to his mom, and Millie tells him she believes in him and shows him a picture of her and Henry with a baby John. She admits they had a fight that day, and he walked out the door, but she won’t let John do the same.

  • Ada believes she has a lead on the box and takes the group to another part of the Clubhouse, and she confesses to automatic writing after she brewed a potion. If they can find the demon that attacked them, they might be able to get answers about everything.

  • A hooded figure wanders a forest where Latunda was and takes its soul into a bottle, but they don’t reveal themselves as animal-like creatures are following it.
