This Is Us Season 6 Episode 3 revolves around fathers and children.

When Jack comes home from work too late to spend time with the kids, he feels guilty and decides to make it up to them by taking them to their first movie. At first, everything seems to be going well, but then Jack falls asleep during the movie and Kevin grows bored and wanders off. Jack finds Kevin in the mall security office with Rebecca, who knew to put his contact info in his shoes in case he got lost.

Jack is upset that he ruined the day out and is sure he ruined Kevin's life, but Rebecca reassures him.

Meanwhile, in the present, Randall is upset when he learns that Deja went to visit Malik and lied about where she was going. He goes for a run to calm down while Beth talks to Deja (off-screen). Later, Beth tells Randall that they have to accept that Deja is growing up, though there should still be consequences for her behavior.

Finally, Kevin is upset that he's missing Frannie's first steps, while Kate and Toby butt heads over the kids' schedules when Toby comes home for the weekend.
