Recap

A man's car blows up as he leaves home.

Will is learning Spanish to feel closer to his late mom, Lucy. He tells the class how he never knew her but wants to. He has Betty with him and explains that she is his family.

Will is called to the crime scene, where he meets Franklin and Det. Ormewood. Amanda initially wonders if it was terrorism, but the bomb expert Cricket Dawson maintains it seems targeted but not terrorism.

Cricket seems interested in Will and is impressed that he solved the James Ulster case, as it shows a flashback of Will's abuse in foster care.

While Michael interviews the family, Will finds a clue, making him suspect that the bomber hit the wrong house. After finding a pool catalog and seeing an identical maroon car, Will interviews a neighbor, Arthur.

When Will inquires if someone might be trying to kill him, Arthur takes off while Will chases him and tackles him, informing Amanda that the bomber was sloppy and Arthur was the actual target.

Angie slept with her doctor. She wants to take the physical and return to work. When he refuses to sign off on this, she blackmails him since he slept with a patient.

Will and Faith grow frustrated that Arthur won't answer any of their questions but admit they can't keep him. They give him a head start and then follow him.

The two meet up with a man named Luke, who flirts with Faith in the elevator. He's another agent who asks why Faith is avoiding him.

Michael learns from his kids that his wife has been spending time with his daughter's friend's dad. The kids don't understand why their mom can't have friends. His son Max counters that Michael is never around.

Will teases Faith about Luke before they enter the diner to get answers from Arthur. He thinks they are harassing him and tries to escape until Faith gets an ID on the bombers' car. That car races into the parking lot, and they start shooting at Arthur.

After it's over, Will demands the truth, and Arthur admits they're trying to get to his son Miles in prison. Someone demanded 5K every month, or his son would die. When he didn't pay, his son was nearly beaten to death.

He was terrified for Miles if he told the authorities. He mentioned that an Asian-American woman approached him at the bank, saying she could help, so Faith promised to look at that footage.

All Arthur wants is to video chat with his son, so they promise to arrange it.

Michael complains to Angie and Franklin that he thinks his wife is having an affair. He explained his suspicions because the air conditioning was on extra for two afternoons each week, and he admitted he put a tracker in her car.

Franklin suggests he talk to Gina maturely, but even he felt bad for Michael when he professed his love for Gina, and she didn't say it back.

Will got a bottle of limoncello that upset him. Cricket entered, and he admited James sent it. She's very inquisitive and asks more questions about him and Angie. Obviously, she likes Will, and he's not used to it.

Faith interrupted and set Arthur up to video chat with his son. Will felt overwhelmed and left. He met Angie at the local pool, who was swimming laps.

He wanted information about a prison gang, but she warned him they wouldn't talk since they're usually more afraid of the inside leader. She tries to get under his skin and taunt him into joining her in the pool.

It starts off as a sweet scene as they hold each other, but then Angie speaks some hard truths about how she wants to return to work so she's not idle and craving drugs.

She thought Will would understand since he returned to work, so he wouldn't have to process his complicated family history.

Luke stops by Faith's office with some alcohol and a tip about the Russian military guys. When she sees it's Rye Whiskey, they begin making out.

Amanda found the bank footage. Emily Chu has a brother in the same prison as Miles. She freaks out when she learns there is a bomb in her car, but Cricket soothes her as she assures Emily everything will be fine.

Faith and Michael suggest to Barney, the impound owner, that he needs a better system. Michael gives part of the bomb, and she calls in a description, including that one bomber may be missing fingers. They get lucky and go interview them.

Emily is freaking out, but she tells Will a similar story that Arthur did and that she was in a prison support group. Amanda checks on those people. Cricket cut the wire and got the detonator out.

Will flirts with Cricket and asks her out. Again, Faith interrupts, this time telling him the suspects are in custody. They had enough c4 for a dozen more bombs, and Faith showed Cricket their bomb cookbook.

Gina drops Max off at the precinct. When Michael learns Max has been skipping school to play video games, he's relieved and hugs his wife, thinking she's not having an affair. But when he confronts her, he's mistaken.

Michael and Max then get into a fight where Max blames his dad.

The GBI realizes the last car is in the impound lot. Cricket and Will find Barney's cats on top of it, and the two climb underneath. There are six minutes left.

To distract them, Cricket has Will tell her about James. He hates that James could be his birth father. She cut the wire, and it went down to two minutes. It's a collapsible circuit.

Michael freaks out that he can't find Max and refuses to leave, so Faith joins the search. When Cricket cuts the next wire, they're down to 30 seconds. Michael finds his son locked in a room. The men embrace and make up.

Cricket yells to Will to find a crowbar to distract him so she can throw the bomb outside and keep him inside the garage.

The next time we see Will, he's more determined to find the inside man and make them pay for Cricket's death. He visits James at prison in the cliffhanger.

Will Trent Season 2 Episode 1 Quotes

Will: Did you know that less than one percent of Americans drive maroon cars?
Arthur: Well, that’s a fun fact.
Will: It’s quite a coincidence that you and your neighbor drive one. This might sound crazy, but do you have any reason to believe that someone would be trying to kill you today?

I’m just happy to meet you. That case with James James Ulster, such a good solve. You gave so many people closure, and I imagine you saved so many others.
