Things were looking pretty bleak when we last left off with Clarke Griffin and her friends (and frenemies) after the events of The 100 Season 3 Finale.
After a mentally and physically torturous fight against ALIE, the powerful AI who hoped to recruit every last member of humanity into her deceptively serene City of Light, Clarke prevailed. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning of a whole new problem.
As ALIE revealed shortly before Clarke made the decision to destroy the City of Light once and for all, the remaining nuclear power plants on earth were melting down – and within mere months, the planet would be irradiated and almost completely uninhabitable.
Clarke made the decision to pull everyone out of the City of Light, rather than leave them in there and spare them the almost inevitable pain of a slow, painful death-by-radiation. But was it the right choice? Will she and Bellamy be able to find a way to save everyone (yet again)?
When The 100 Season 4 picks up, we’re set to rejoin our favorite characters back in Polis, where things seem to be tense in the immediate aftermath of ALIE’s reign. Clarke, Bellamy, Abby, Kane, and Jaha all appear in preview photos for the new season premiere – and no one looks particularly happy, calm, or relieved.

Kane and Abby finally acted on their growing romantic feelings for one another in The 100 Season 3. Perhaps they’ll find time for their budding relationship amidst the brewing chaos of Season 4.
Jaha’s Fate – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Jaha was instrumental in releasing ALIE and setting off her reign of terror. How will he assimilate among the Sky People in the aftermath of all of the pain he unwittingly caused under the AI’s control?
Tense in Polis – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Things still seem a bit tense in Polis. Perhaps the Grounders recognize that Jaha played a big part in what ALIE did to all of them. Here, he looks quite nervous and like he’s about to be attacked.
A Standoff – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Here, Jaha is in the middle of some kind of tense standoff between Grounders and Sky People. What’s going on in Polis? Lexa was able to enjoy a peaceful reign for some amount of time — will the next Commander be able to re-establish peace among the clans?
Chancellor Kane – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Kane was at his lowest point when we last saw him during The 100 Season 3 Finale. Will he be able to reconcile the things he did and said while under ALIE’s control and be an effective leader of his people once again?
Keeping the Peace – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Kane, ever the peacekeeper, stands between Jaha and a group of armed Sky People, seemingly demanding that they put down their weapons. Tensions are high after the destruction of the City of Light.
Kane Protecting Jaha – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Kane and Jaha have had their differences, but it’s nice to see that Kane still won’t hesitate to protect his former ally and Commander when it comes down to it.
Bellamy’s Past – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Bellamy did many terrible and inexcusable things in The 100 Season 3. Hopefully, Season 4 won’t sweep those under the rug, but will allow him to confront his past mistakes, atone for them, and finally move on.
Bellarke – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Bellamy and Clarke will be working together this season to prevent a nuclear meltdown from wiping out civilization. Will they grow closer during their quest?
A Solid Team – The 100 Season 4 Episode 1
Bellamy and Clarke are a solid team. It seems that no matter what either of them do, the other is always there to offer forgiveness and understanding when it’s needed. Both understand the harsh realities of doing whatever is necessary in order to survive.

As always, Clarke is at the center of the latest crisis. Will she be able to make the hard choices that are necessary to once again save her people?
