T.R. Knight Confirms Slur Was Made, Resulted in His Coming Out Comments (Page 2)

I believe that people make to much of comments like this. I believe people who have specific agenda's look for such comments and blow them up. I am so tired of having to walk on egg shellls to stay "politically correct." I believe if TR had a problem with it he should have confronted Isaiah about it. I am a minority, because I'm a hispanic woman - but I don't cry out UNFAIR everytime someone calls me by names I don't appreciate. I say GROW up and deal with it like a man TR. I believe that this is not about the word, "FAGGOT" it's about some one's political agenda.

I do not understand why "faggot" or "fag" is such a bad word. If you are a homosexual man, then expect to be associated with those words, as well as queer, gay, sissy and other words I know are offensive (so I'm not listing them). It's just a word.

  3. germangirl

    hello
i am from germany, so i didnt know the word "f****t" can someone explain the word for me, please??

  4. Justin

Do you not screen these comments? Why would you let people who are hatemongers the right to voice their comments here? Anyone using the F* word is spreading the same low brow attitude that we need to evolve above. It is just admittedly an embarrassment for them to leave those comments but it is also an offense for those with any measurable I.Q. to have to read. Please screen better in the future. Thank you.

Seems like we have been over this before, O'Mally Girl, and I don't mean to keep repeating myself, but Isaiah did not deny using the term, he denied calling TR the term. TR believes he overheard Isaiah referring to him by the term. Katherine Heigl told Ellen in her original interview right after it happened that she wasn't on the set but heard about it. I heard her after the Golden Globes and you know what, she should not have spoken either. Her words were supportive of Knight but hurtful to Washington and they are both her castmates. It was inappropriate for her to publicly take sides. She can be TRs best buddy, but that wasn't the time for her to say anything at all. I have far more respect for Sandra, Patrick, Chandra, Justin, James, Eric, Katie Walsh, and Sara who managed to get through the whole debacle without adding fuel to the fire. So I am sorry that we disagree and do respect your right to see it differently, but we disagree. From the stand point of the show and the

sorry BurkeBacker but i TOTALLY disagree. I mean, TR even said that everyone on set heard what he said. Don't you find it odd that Isaiah Washington is the only one who DENIED that it happened? Katherine Heigl did, and she was FURIOUS. In quote from Golden Globes, "you now what, im gonna be very honest right now, he needs to just not speak in public. period. im sorry, it just did not need to be said. and i am not ok with it. i have no idea what it was, i just, i find it hurtfull. i dont know, i dont know, i feel like this should be something that should be very much in house and i, feel like it should be somthing to deal with. among us and among all of the casting crew, and shondra ofcoarse and our producers and hopfully we can work it out. i dont, you know, i dont... it's just somthing i am flumboxed by, i dont get it. TR's my best friend, so i will throw down for that kid. i will beat you up! i will use any ounce of energy to take you down, if you hurt his feelings."

I, for one, do not care one way or the other, whether TR is gay is not a concern of mine. I just want to say that he does a fabulous job on the show and that's all that matters, that he goes to work and performs. The rest is none of my business.
As for his cast member using, what I consider, a cruel word, is sad but it happens. My husband has a word that he would use to IW's face, and it is not nice or acceptable either.

Hi Bonnie. You are so wise and so right and you just keep trying to get us back to the subject of the show we love and the people who inhabit Seattle Grace. I agree with you so much in my head. Intellectually I know you are right. Then I read this awful hateful nonsense and my heart makes me respond. Faggot. It's a word. We have decided it is beyond horrible. TR has decided that it defines who he is and so if he overhears it he has to announce to the world that he is gay. Therefore by default the person saying the word must be a horrible, hateful human being. My heart goes out to Isaiah that he is being so villified and misunderstood. Some of the comments are just so over the top that I find myself compelled to respond. Even if I did not love Isaiah and love the character of Burke I would feel the need to defend this man who has had to carry all of this hate on his back for a slip of the tongue back in October and trying to correct the situation in January. I'm sorry. I k

I think it is very sad that IW has said what hes said. In a world that has started to accept alternative life styles this does not help. I have a uncle that is gay and a aunt too. they are the most lovely people that i know. IW needs to get some help and deal with these feelings. as far as greys go i think he should go also....the cast of greys are extreamly talented and to have one that has said and done what IW has is unacceptable... TR my hat is off to you and good luck in allthat you do.. I am behind you 100%...

  10. James

Not only is he a FAGGOT he's crying like a BITCH about it.
We are all called names in our life I have a 1000.00 that Isiah was called a NIGGER a few times in his life.

Grew up you and stop being a Bitch

  11. purplemerder

maybe he should be fined or something....don't they fine athletes for doing bad stuff.....
and to say that people would boycott is wrong too......IW is one character....why make the other characters suffer for what he did....i think if he is fired it would not be shondras decision so why make her suffer.

  12. Nanci

I am disappointed in IW. He shouldn't have said it and he shouldn't have raised the issue again at the GG. However, I don't think he should be fired. Look Mel Gibson made racist remarks about Jews and he's gone on to make another movie and will continue to do so. People are racists, sexists, and homophobes. It's sad. And it is horrible that IW did this. He's very arrogant. But, that doesn't mean he should be fired necessarily. However, if he continues to make remarks and becomes a divisive force in the cast, then of course he should be fired. The question is have relationships on the set been so destroyed by this latest remark that there is no continuing on or not. Shonda, in any event, should make a strong public statement against IW's actions and a statement supporting TR and supporting diversity.

  13. Deborah

This show, writers, directors, actors are all hypocrits in regards to professing anger against using slurs to describe a set of people, beliefs, etc.

In the 5/7/06 episode, "Synopsis", "Dr Bailey", played by Chandra Wilson, a black woman, refers to an family coming into the ER as the "hick show", hillbillies, etc simply because they are from the south. This was spewed by Wilson, as Dr Bailey, with venom and disgust at the thought of having to treat a southern family. The southern family was portrayed, AS USUAL, as loud, ignorant, red necks, with poor manners and grammar. The actors portraying this family, AS USUAL, over-emoted with the over-done thick accents, mannerisms, etc., all at the behest of the writers, director, etc.

While everyone on the set is crying about Isaiah Washington using a slur, I don't hear any outcry for the degredation, on a daily basis, for the disgusting language used to describe people from Appalachia, southern states, etc. They are the last group

  14. KIKI

    Give me a break....
    Move on, they said they squashed it...Rosie made fun of chinese people then apologized. Let's move on. The media needs to let it go ....Let's just rty it again;;;;;;

  15. josh markus

nobody uses the word faggot anymore, especailly in a hated argument. Maybe the word fag. But that is a different sound.

My guess is he was listening in on to guys fighting and heard a combination of words that he made up in his own mind as being the word faggot.

It is far more likely it was a different combination of words....and since the other Actor is denying it....I think this much to do about a simple misunderstanding.

    Has TR confronted Asiah directly?

  16. tombaker

I believe Isaiah. So what if TR thought he heard something....his co worker says he did not. And TR is being very very snippy by going around acting like a wounded victim. A man would have just sucked it up and accepted the apology. Now you have TR and his best friend trying to get the strong black dude written off the series.

TR claiming he had to come out because of this does not pass the sniff test.

BTW FWIW his character on the series is gay, but has not come out, the writers are waiting. But you can tell by the way he rejects girls, and is wounded when he gets laid just to get laid. That is totally gay

  17. purplemerder

I don't think he said that word to TR's face....i think it was overheard...but it still hurts.....i don't want IW to get fired I just think he shouldn't have said what he said at the GG/

  18. MH

Personally, I don't think IW called him a fa****! I think there was an off color comment made from IW to PD and TR Knight overheard it. Maybe he wanted the publicity, maybe he was tired of being in the closet publicly and used it to push any negative views off of him and onto someone else in his coming out or maybe he was just offended. Who knows. I would be interested in knowing if IW had a few drinks at the GG. Maybe it relaxed him a little and when that reporter brought up the incident he got a little angry and was trying to clear it up. It made things worse, but that would help me to understand why he wouldn't just be quiet.
I have a hard time thinking that IW walked up to TR and called him that to his face with no remorse. As diverse as the show is, and as fair as Shonda is, I wouldn't think she'd have a problem giving anyone the axe, main character or not. I think there is just a lot more to the situation.
I have no doubt with all of the accounts that the word was sa

If people would quit talking about it and asking questions about it then it would be over and done with. Some people just don't know how to move on.

  20. luvthisshow

so much for them saying they were all over it in the oprah interview, eh? LOL it was far from over obviously, since TRK is speaking about it still and KH as well. the only one who is maintaining any decency is PD -- he has taken the high road from the very beginning.

  21. luvthisshow

would someone please explain to me why IW would be calling TRK a name when it was PD he was supposedly angry with for being late to the set? why is TRK involved? has that ever been established? i don't think we ever had the whole story. but ya know, whatever. i'm just pissed that we are all discussing this yet again. let it be done once and for all.

  22. mj

purplemerder, I understand what you're saying, but although he is saying he didn't understand, most people understood what IW was trying to do. If he didn't understand, why didn't he ask IW, why didn't he ask KH. Everyone knew what he was trying to do, even through it came out wrong. Like most of us, we would like to continue enjoying Greys, and as upset as I am, too, after thinking about it, I wouldn't want anyone to leave the show.

  23. Burke Backer

Isaiah said he never called TR a faggot. That's what he has been saying from the start. By that I believe he means he did not say, "TR you are a faggot." I think that is true. Not back in October and not after the Golden Globes. He has never called TR a faggot. In both of these situations he was saying "I" as the noun, not "TR". He said, "I am not a faggot", and he said, "I did not call TR a faggot." It is an awful word. It should not be used by anyone under any circumstances. It would have been worse to use it against someone else, which he says he did not do. But still it is not appropriate to use at all.

That being said, he did not say the word nonchalantly after the GG, purplemerder. I heard him. He did not storm the microphone either as someone described it to give it as negative a connotation as possible. He did step to the mic from the corner of the group and he did try to set the record straight from his perspective. He was hurt and angry that the same E rep

  24. purplemerder

mj- I am not saying that IW didn't intend to just control the questions once and for all...i am sure that is what he meant to do....but you must admit it really blew up in his face.....I was always on IW side up until now...you can asks all the burktina fans...i have never bad mouthed him. I have always said that we all make mistakes and as long as the cast and crew is ok then it should be a mute point. I just was very upset to see that IW said it so nonchalantly and yes he might not have meant it that way...i just believe TR right now based on the fact that until the GG comment TR and PD have been on his side and haven't had to bring out the "f" word but no that IW is denying TR has had to come out himself about the situation (like on Ellen today) i don't know that anything will make this go away or make it better. TR was just really sincere today and handled it great...he didn't come out and say "IW is a liar and get upset" he just said he didn't know why IW said what he said.

  25. mj

purplemerder, At this point, I don't know who's telling the truth, I'm saying his intentions were to control the questioning once and for all about the incident. It was in the past, and IW, like most of us, was sick of hearing about it. That's what he meant by enough is enough. They've come to far to have to go through that again. I believe that's what he was thinking.
