An Exclusive Interview with Supernatural Star Misha Collins

by at . Comments

Misha Collins joined Supernatural this season as the angel, Castiel.  Now with rumors of Collins joining the cast of season five as a regular, we were honored here at TV Fanatic to interview this fantastic actor.

So what's it like working with two of the hottest actors on television and what's the future of Castiel?  Find out in our exclusive interview:

TVFanatic.com: So is the ink dry, are you an official season five series regular?
Misha Collins: It is official.  I received a letter in the mail.  I think letters always make things official.  I'm thrilled to be apart of it for next season.  I'm thrilled I got the news early enough so I can find a new apartment in Vancoucer.  I'm not going to be a regular in all the episodes like Jared and Jensen, but I'm definitely gonna be in for the season.

TVFanatic.com: What's it like joining a long running show with such an established fan base?
Misha: It's been great.  I've been really surprised that I've been as welcomes into as well.  I didn't even know this fan community existed.  Some people are nervous about new people joining the show. They're nervous it's going to take away from Jared and Jensen's time.  I think it's absurd.  I think the show's core is always going to be about these two brothers and their relationship.  I think my character is going to be there to help that storyline.  Some people are so enthusiastic to have me on.  it's been really cool.  I thought i was only gonna do a few episodes.  It's been a total surprise for me.

Castiel on Supernatural

TVFanatic.com: With such critical fans, do you find yourself checking the internet to see their reactions?
Misha: No I'm not an Internet guy.  I don't Google around.  My mother will occasionally send me things.  She enjoys trolling the Internet.  I'm not somebody who reads blogs.  I barely have time to keep up with my email.

TVFanatic.com: What's it like working with Jensen and Jared?
Misha: It's great.  I honestly couldn't ask for better co-workers.  They work really hard.  They always show up prepared.  With a really good attitude.  They're fun and funny and sarcastic and make the experience on the set enjoyable.  We just laugh a lot.  I've been on so many other sets where everyone is miserable.  I'm really happy to be working on Supernatural.

TVFanatic.com: We've definitely seen Castiel grow as a character, where do you see him going?
Misha: I have no clue.  I have feeling that Castiel at his core is a good angel.  He's gonna end up serving Sam and Dean in some way.  I don't know.  That's just my educated guess.  It's not like I've gotten a phone call from Eric Kripke, "Oh Misha, we've decided to make Castiel an astronaut next season."

TVFanatic.com: And now for the mandatory question, any Supernatural spoilers you can reveal?
Misha: Sam is gonna be wrestling with the DTs in the coming episodes as he goes through a little demon blood withdrawl.  It's gonna be forced cold turkey withdrawl.  It will drives a little wedge between him and Dean.

being a castiel fan, I just hope we see quite a lot of episodes of him with dean. He is amazingly talented & sexy, so he can be shared with sam and dean.
Thanks for the latest pictures, they're awesum

I love Misha's interviews a lot! He's such intelligent and smart guy, and have great sence of humor. I think Castiel is a great addiction to the show and this storyline is like a breath of fresh air. Dean/Castiel relationship are so fascinating to watch, can't wait for their further development. And J2 have done dozens interviews, I agree, they hardly will say something new, moreover why J2's interviews have to be done "instead" of Misha's? How they are related?

Thanks, always enjoy reading Misha's take on things. We've had 4 years of interviews with Jared and Jensen. There isn't really anything new to discover there, IMO, so it's nice to read the perspective of someone who is seeing things from a fresh point of view. I've loved the direction the show has taken this season and am looking forward to season five. Castiel has been a terrific addition and I'm very happy to know he'll be returning. I love the acting chemistry between Collins and Ackles. I really hope to see the Dean/Castiel relationship developed more next season. Kudos to Kripke for getting this one right after season three, which was a disappointment that nearly turned me off the show for good.

Thanks for the interview I've only started watching Supernatural this season because of Misha and I've become addicted :D I've grown to love Sam and Dean because of Castiel. I can't wait for season 5 and I concur worrying about taking time from Jensen and Jared is absurd, new interest means new fans and that can only be good for the show.

I like Misha a lot, that being said I miss Jared and Jensen being interviewed how about we find out what's going on with the two leads this finale instead of a bit character next season. I'm not a Castiel fan to be honest.

It's a minor, minor detail, but someone might want to know that "DTs" isn't short for "detox", it's short for "delirium tremens", the fancy Latin term for the extreme condition that detox is meant to cure.

Really nice interview, guys! It's interesting how Misha hints that Castiel is a good angel "at his core" - suggesting we're not done with that sudden remove we just saw! Argh, this season finale will kill me, I just know it! ;-) Though if you'll forgive me ... Please check your capitalizations at the beginning of a few sentences, and also make "i" into "I". Also, it's "DTs", not "BTs" - short for Detox. ;-)

Do you think maybe someone can do an interview with Jensen and Jared instead, it's been really scarce this season.

"Some people are so enthusiastic to have me on."
We definitely are!

Great interview. It's great to hear more from Misha about his role as Castiel. I do have to say there's a ton of typos in this article though...perhaps an editor might be a good idea? Just a thought.
