Supernatural Producer Peers Ahead: What's on Tap in 2010?

It's been an exhaustive wait for Supernatural fans, but that show finally returns with a new episode on Thursday.

Heading into the second half of season five, producer Sera Gamble spoke to TV Guide Magazine about what viewers have to look forward to over the next few months...

On the February 4 episode, Back to the Future 2: Sam and Dean go back to try to save their mom and dad - from a threat that also travels back in time from 2020 - Terminator style. If the baddie succeeds, Mary and John (pictured)  will be murdered - and Sam and Dean will never be born.

On the Valentine's Day episode: Sam and Dean are investigating a series of gory murder/suicides; all people who were desperately in love. They suspect the culprit may be the supernatural being who made the matches to begin with - a Cupid gone rogue. So they capture and interrogate him.

Yes, Gamble confirms, actual Heaven.

Naturally, as depicted below, the trio tracks him down for questioning:

A Sixth Supernatural Season: Very Likely

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke has hyped season five as: "The war everyone's been waiting for."

So far, viewers have been excited to see how this has all come together - but should they also be worried? Kripke has said in the past he only sketched out five seasons worth of storylines for The CW drama.

Fortunately, though, network president Dawn Ostroff says Kripke is open to the possibility of a sixth season.

“I think he’s in that state of mind,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I had lunch with Eric the other day and he’s really excited about the show right now. I think he feels this season has been really satisfying for him. He’s certainly not running out of ideas by any stretch of the imagination.”

Ratings have been up this season, too, as Ostroff is thrilled with the change in its demographic.

“We have more young women coming to the show than ever before," she said. "There aren’t a lot of shows that you can say are doing better in their fifth year.”

Supernatural returns with a new episode on January 21.
