An Exclusive Interview with Supernatural Star Jim Beaver

TVF Exclusive

Supernatural fans know Jim Beaver as Bobby.

But the veteran actor has appeared on a slew of well-reviewed, popular shows, from classics such as The West Wing to current hits such as Big Love.

In an exclusive interview with TV Fanatic, the affable actor talked about his long career, while hyping an upcoming episode of Supernatural he describes as "one of the most memorable we've ever had..."

TV Fanatic: Talk about the evolution of Bobby as a character on Supernatural.
Beaver: When I first shot the finale of season one, nobody said anything about this being a recurring character. But I was very pleased to come back for a second episode - Deadwood was coming to an end and I was concerned about my next job - and, by the third episode, we all began thinking Bobby could be an integral part of the show.

TV Fanatic: You have a long, impressive resume. Is there any role that stands out that Supernatural fans might not be aware of?
Beaver: Deadwood was a high point in my career in several ways, but most fans know about that. My first series was actually a sitcom called Thunder Alley. It aired for a couple years and I played the village idiot... a major departure from Bobby.

Bobby, Supernatural

TV Fanatic: We loved Harper's Island and have to ask: Did the cast know who was getting killed off each week?
Beaver: We knew when we got each script, which was three or four days before shooting an episode. More than that, though, none of us knew if we were guilty or innocent, which was weird to play. It was a lot of fun, but there's a fine line to acting for a role when you have no idea if you're a killer.

TV Fanatic: Back to Supernatural. What's it like working with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles?
Beaver: Who?!? [Laughs.] They are just lovely guys to work with. There's a warm feeling every time I show up on the set. They're fun, funny... have good hearts.
It's really not always the case where you have two young, handsome leads that turn out to be great guys, too.

Castiel Versus Lucifer: Coming to Supernatural!

The action is about to heat up on Supernatural... literally!

On the November 19 episode of The CW drama, Castiel will go to Hell.

“I’m on a very important recon mission in Missouri when Lucifer captures and integrates me by trapping me in a burning ring of fire using holy oil,” star Misha Collins told TV Guide Magazine. “It’s our first head-to-head.”

You can take off that trench coat below, Castiel. We doubt you're gonna need it.

On Friday's all-new episode of Supernatural, Sam and Dean come across an 11-year old that can turn fairy tales into reality.

Cool, right? Not to Castiel. He orders the brothers to take care off this youngster, creating a major dilemma for the siblings.

Mark Sheppard to Guest Star on "Epic" Supernatural Episode

Mark Sheppard is coming to Supernatural.

As first reported by Mo Ryan of The Chicago Tribune, the actor will portray a "pivotal" demon named Crowley in this season's 10th episode.

Mark Sheppard

The installment, titled "Abandon All Hope..." is the final hour of Supernatural in 2009. The show will take a month-long hiatus before returning in 2010.

But it will at least go out with a bang, as the episode is "epic" and will "definitely... have the fans on the edge of their seats going into the holiday 'hellatus,'" Ryan's source said.

Sheppard has recentlg guest-starred on Burn Notice, Leverage, Dollhouse and Warehouse 13.

Paris Hilton on Supernatural: Not the Apocalypse?

This season of Supernatural focuses on the impending Apocalypse.

Some would say it's therefore apt that Paris Hilton guest stars on Friday's episode, "Fallen Idol."

During the hour, as Supernatural spoilers have spilled, Sam and Dean visit a small town where residents are murdered by famous dead icons. One zombie takes the form of Hilton, who makes a cameo, seen below:

Paris Hilton on Supernatural

Creator Eric Kripke at least acknowledges that fans may think Hilton's appearance on his show spells the end of the world; or at least the end of its creative storyline.

But he told Entertainment Weekly: "I don't think we're gassing up the motorcyle to jump the shark yet... it's a fun, irreverent episode about modern celebrity."

And about sex tape starring skanks that require non-stop attention, apparently.

Supernatural Clip, Episode Stills from "The End"

This Thursday marks an important episode in the Supernatural lore.

Titled "The End," the installment finds Dean waking up five years in the future. He's in an abandoned city and is attacked by humans-turned-zombies that have been infected with a demonic virus.

Dean soon learns that this world exists because, in the present day, he turned down the chance to help the angels fight Lucifer. Oops! Watch a clip from "The End" below:
