A McBaby is highly unlikely. First is the obvious fact of timing and second the the issue of a permanent non-doctor cast. It will complicate the plot. And at this time there are several interesting possibilities for plot.

they have to move it faster along. There's six seasons and not even 2 years!! Unless they make season 7 like a jump and have it like two years later, if not it's going too slow!!

I think they need a baby that way if izzie or george dies the whole hosiptal could love and watch the baby. And it would be awesome to see how mer and der act with being parnets and doctors at the same time. Plus it would be neat to see how the take the news.

So Ellen will be 7 months pregnant when they start filming in August. She is going to need some time off, and I can't imagine a GA episode without her. I hope they look after Ellen properly. I hope season 7 ends on Meredith telling Derek she's pregnant.

They could hide Ellen's real pregnancy and after Ellen gives birth they could write a McBaby. I don't see why not, if Ellen is going to be seven months along in her pregnancy, so is better that her real pregnancy to be hidden, than written in. They could write a pregnancy after Ellen gives pregnancy and we wouldn't miss any storyline.

yeah you've got a point and i dont want to miss the aftermath of izzie and george i also want to see how meredith deals with pregnancy i agree with anuflas it should be around christmas i did earlier say it could happen where they jump but when i actually think about it it wouldn't feel like greys and the show could go futher than season 7 other shows have i.e 7th Heaven

i think that if there was a baby then it would be a surprise to mer and der. it would be much more them. i think that opening the season later (when mers pregnant) would make sense and then have flashbacks. it would be cute.... i think

I really don't see it that way. Mer shouldn't be sacrificing too much of her personal life (she DID gave up her wedding, whether it was appropiate for her or not and I don't see Derek collecting the money back) for the sake of one of her friends. I can see how this can be a slap to Izzie's face but there is a line. The pregnancy could develop later in the season, maybe as a Christmas present?
I also don't think it's rushed. The show (at least until this time) is supposed to end at season 7, that leaves us two more seasons to develop a story for them. Season 6 could be the pregnancy and season 7 could be Mer having a refresh moment and be the mother that Ellis couldn't be. I could see the series ending on that note.
Even PD himself said it, they should get married and start having babies next season (he referred to season 6).
Why isn't he writing the show? :P

I personally don't think they should write the baby in. Only because I think it would be moving to fast for Meredith and Derek. They did just get married, and knowing about Meredith's character I don't think she would have a baby around the time two of her best friends are in the hospital, near death. But who knows.. :)

What,s wrong with how George looks now? TR is a gorgeous man. I'm so tired of those stupid knocks on his looks.
Give me TR over Eddie Cibrian any day. TR to me is mroe handsome and a way better actor.
Not sure what George getting a story would prevent Meredith from having a baby.
I can think of many other characters whose airtime could be reduced to allow Mer to have a story. Izzie and Alex come to mind.
TR deserves a big story, and so do the George fans.
We have been more than patient.
I can tell you right now, if they kill George off, I'm not sticking around anymore.
ABC said Shonda would do what the fans want. Well the fans want George to stay and they want TR to play him.
So she better figure out a way to make that happen.

They could have both. I'm having a problem with the person begrudging us George fans a story.
Why shouldn't wer get one? We have just been waiting 2 years for one.
I get the Izzie thing. She had more than enough story, but we George fans got nothing.
George is why I watch, so I want him to stay and get a big story.
I don't see how that would take away from Meredith having a baby.
They found a way to give a lot of characters stories this season, everyone but George that is.

What they should do is have flashbacks of what happens with izzie and geoerge and if one of them die the funeral and of meredith finding out she pregnant and how she handle it for the first episode and continual small flash back after that for the next few episodes or they could introduce the baby later

I sorta expected this because of the timing in Ellen's pregnancy. I think that something is going to happen to Mer or Derek for that matter, that is going to be the storyline to play out while Ellen is on maternity leave and both her and PD will be absent for a couple of episodes.
Maybe they take a vacation (honeymoon perhaps?) make it legal and once they come back, they find out that Mer is pregnant?
I honestly want this storyline more than a legal wedding or whatever else is going on. I want to see Derek hovering over a pregnant Mer. I want to see Mer deal with the fact that she is about to become a mother. I want to see them balance their professional lives and parenthood. I really want to see this happen. One can only dream, right?
@McHot, I think that they better make it for this season since everyone is contracted for only seven seasons and so far, Shonda hasn't given a hint that they might make more seasons. This show needs continuity and this would be great for at leas

I was hoping they would write it in too or will do a prego storyline soon...i can just imagine how crazy meredith will be with her mommy issues then not really being around kids so she has to learn everything from Derek and funny little moments that they could have with this storyline....
