Why is it so farfetched? Meredith was away at boarding school. Ellis did move to Boston at some point. This is possible. AND I LIKE IT!

Anyone remember Ellis reliving the breakup of her relationship with Richard and saying Richard did not want children!
Mer was a mature little girl who at the age of 5 called for help after her mom's 'suicide' attempt. Mer would have noticed a prgnancy, surely

I really don't know what side to choose. I've read all of these comments and they all have really good reasons.
I kind of think that this one of the little things to keep us occupied while Grey's is on rerun mode. Remember the Derek/Rose possible child? Who knows..Shonda probably has something up her sleeve that will catch us all. That's why she's awesome :)

First, Dimples61, I think you are talking about a VERY different time - like the 50ies, where racial problems were pretty huge! 30 years ago (and, not to forget we don
t know how old Jackson is - or do we??) giving birth to a biracial child wouldn't have been that devasting!!! And if it was the baby of the love of your life, I don't think anyone would care about the social reactions.
There qould be so many different explanations - mer in boarding school, ellis saying sth. like she would be working abroad, mer stayng with her dad for some months (like over the summer)... also don't forget, that there are women who stay thinn during their pregnancy!

I think it is possible like I said before. Since she was such a well known doctor. She didn't need her getting pregnant by a black man being known. In this day and time. It don't matter about a woman having bi-racial children but 30 yrs ago that was a big deal. It would have totally messed with her future as a doctor. If this is true, I wonder how Adel is going to deal with it. LOL!!! I hope in a bad way. I love her going off. She is so funny. I loved the line. Someone is sleeping with our husband. LOL!!!

My issue is: if Ellis was so unhappy and annoyed that she had Meredith, why on Earth would she have another child? Even if she gave him up for adoption (which also doesn't make much sense either because she could have also given Meredith up, after her divorce from Thatcher), how can Meredith not know either?
Ellis was living her residency again when the show started. She could've dropped the news to Meredith (since Ellis wasn't aware that she was her daughter) or say something to Richard while being lucid.
Meredith was five years old but she remembered when Richard left Ellis (Ep. 301), her mother's suicide attempt, among other. I'd think that she would've noticed it.
I think that this could've been a great SL if Lexie hadn't come in the picture because now, instead of great, it'd be ridiculous.

I don't think it's that unreasonable.
We know that at best, Ellis was a mom who didn't give much time or attention to Meredith. Even if she wasn't shipped off to boarding school at some point, she was probably primarily being taken care of by housekeepers, etc.
We also know that Ellis was something of a "surgical rock star" who moved around a lot during her career. Remember back in S1, when the Chief didn't realize Ellis wasn't practicing anymore?
I think that Ellis giving up a child of Webber's for adoption makes perfect sense from a character standpoint. She was too much of a self-centered careerist to RAISE another child after Meredith, but aborting the child of the love of her life probably wasn't an emotionally acceptable option, either.
So I would guess that she hid the pregnancy as long as she could and gave the baby up for adoption. She likely never told the Chief. Thatch was either already out of the picture, or too passive to do anything about it. Mere was

All you are right . I think that Ellis has tried the suicide ones' own because the chief refused hers and she were pregnant and she has not said nothing to him. Then they are gone to Boston and Mer was 8 years old and not remember this event. This is my idea or i don't know to say other.i 'd have prefered an other storyline by Mer ,instead of this.Perhaps the whole shebang has been done for behaviour the arrive our characters until the 7°season.Mer finds again an alcoholic chief and a stepbrother, while the history among her and Der its grown as a surgeon there isn't ,she seems one of first year.

That is beyond stupid. Greys is a Soap, but it isn't a daytime soap. Get real.
So...Meredith just forgot that her Mom (who didn't want 1 kid, Mere, much less another kid) was pregnant at an age when kids ask questions about babies etc...? And everyone who worked with Ellis also didn't notice that she was huge?
So stupid.

Kristen is absolutely right. This is a drama but "Jackson turning out to be Richard & Ellis's son" would be totally nonsense, not to mention humiliation to the viewer's minds...

Don't see how this could possibly happen...I highly doubt Ellis Grey took a 9 month leave of absence, that being said, if she DIDNT take a leave of absence from work SOMEONE SOMEWHERE in that hospital would of noticed her pregnant, and it would get back to Meredith. I know this is a drama and a soap opera, but this is a little far fetched even for day time soaps!

@Beau I'm with you, why give up the child of the love of life and not Mer who is the child of Thatcher the man she didn't love, come one get real. If Ellis would've have a child with Richard she would've used the child to keep Richard around instead of attempted suicide. Why even try to killed yourself when you are pregnant with the love of life child?

I think it actually could be.. and maybe that's why they're doing the flashback episode, first to show how the chief's drinking problems started and second to show ellis was hiding something (or someone in this case).. would be nice.. but only if they have a good story to back it all up and it doesn't turn into as the world turns with all the brothers and sisters and incest

I agree with Ace. I don't think Jackson would ever be Meredith's long lost half brother.
Dimples61
December 9th, 2009 11:09 PM
Ace Ellis wasn't always nuts. And she did love the chief. So I can buy that she and him might have had a child and her adopt it out. I'm sure even though she was cold hearted she wasn't so cold as to abort a baby. They was looking for this man back last year to play the part of Ellis and Richards son. I think Jackson would fill the part. And it would be and interesting story. But poor Mer another sibling.
OMG, dispel this rumor already. There is NO way Ellis Grey would've had a love-child with Richard Webber. Give how Ellis was so high-powered in her surgical career, I can't imagine her settling down for a bit to have a child, given how she regretted raising Mer.
Also, Ellis, in one of her rants, said that Webber never wanted children, so having a child certainly wasn't in the plans for either one of them.
Additionaly, this is Ellis Grey we're talking about. If she had a love-child, would the woman actually bring the baby to term? I don't believe Ellis would hesitate for a second to terminate the pregnancy.
No, having a child will break contiunity of the show, because let's face it, it would have come up when Ellis became lucid.
