While The Vampire Diaries has grown exceedingly handsome over the last few weeks - with the addition of guest stars Matthew Davis and Dillon Casey - the show is about to throw a beautiful bone to its male viewers.

Mia Kirshner has signed on for a recurring role on The CW hit, as sources confirm to Michael Ausiello she'll play Isobel, the wife of Davis' Alaric Saltzman.

The actress - who has enjoyed extended runs on 24 and The L Word - will debut on January 21, the date on which The Vampire Diaries returns from hiatus... and we know what you're thinking:

Yes, Alaric told Jenna his wife had passed away. Word is she'll be seen in flashbacks because she was killed... by a main character on the show!
