The Big Bang Theory Review: "The Plimpton Stimulation"

at .

After inexplicably taking last week off from reviewing The Big Bang Theory, I am back this week to review Judy Greer's guest spot in "The Plimpton Stimulation."  I must warn you though, as a huge Arrested Development slash Greer fan in general, I'm a bit biased.

Judy Greer on Big Bang Theory

The premise was that Sheldon invited famed physicist Dr. Plimpton (Judy Greer) to sleep at their place while in from out of town.  Despite being his near female clone, Sheldon clearly felt no sexual feelings towards his friends, while she felt sexual feeling towards just about anything that moved.

While that's a surprisingly simple setup for a show like The Big Bang Theory, they took this simple concept and just ran with it.  The episode started with Leonard sleeping with Dr. Plimpton because, well, she let him.  From there, Leonard's plot line became about Penny becoming jealous.  We actually liked how the show handled this post-breakup jealousy, not making it the center of the episode but still having it in the backgroumd.

Dr. Plimpton was clearly not content with just one man and craved a whole new set of men as she set her eyes on Raj and even Wolowitz.  The orgy proposition was a little creepy towards the end and we were a little shocked to see Wolowitz of all people backing out.  Either way, Raj still got lucky.  Friendly advice to Leonard and Raj?  Get tested.

The flask of Nyquil was a cute way to get Raj over his inability to talk to women, but we really really need to just ditch the premise altogether.  We promise you we'll forgive the inconsistency.

Speaking of consistency, we're glad the show finally addressed the absent Bernadette by announcing Wolowitz and she broke up.  However, after we've all become such big fans of this cute character why not have given her at least a breakup episode.  We have to believe with the Big Bang's rating it could have brought this actress back for one more episode.

The episode definitely felt a little different than the last few of the season, but we liked it.   Our favorite Big Bang Theory quotes from the half hour are after the jump.

Sheldon: I have a lady friend who will be staying with me for a few days. I want her to feel at home; I also bought scented soaps, pantyhose, Midol, calcium chews, and what is apparently a yogurt specifically designed to regulate the female bowel. | permalink
Leonard: You still have a cold?
Raj: Maybe, but I don't care. That's the good thing about NyQuil -- it's like, 10% booze. I call it the "nighttime sniffling, sneezing, coughing, so you can talk to girls medicine." | permalink
Raj: Go away! She wants New Delhi, not Kosher Deli! | permalink
Sheldon: Dr. Plimpton, Penny is a waitress who doesn't understand the role gasoline plays in the internal combustion engine. | permalink

The Big Bang Theory Season 3 Episode 21 Quotes

I have a lady friend who will be staying with me for a few days. I want her to feel at home; I also bought scented soaps, pantyhose, Midol, calcium chews, and what is apparently a yogurt specifically designed to regulate the female bowel.

Sheldon

Leonard: Are you planning on kidnapping a woman?
Sheldon: Sarcasm?
Leonard: Yes, but mixed with a little bit of concern.
