Grey's Anatomy Round Table: "These Arms of Mine"

by at . Comments

Welcome to TV Fanatic's Grey's Anatomy Round Table, in which our panelists discuss the burning questions from the most recent episode of the medical drama.

The topics for our "These Arms of Mine" Round Table Q&A and TVF's take ...

1. What was your favorite Grey's Anatomy quote from the episode?

L.J. Gibbs: "Being a hero has it's price." - Yang

M.L. House: I'll go with Sloan's take on the installment: "You picked a good night to start filming. This is gonna be fun." As you'll be able to tell in my following answer, I couldn't disagree more.

Mrs. Northman: Derek: "He

RT, Greys

2. The documentary-style filming: Cool change of pace or lame gimmick?

L.J. Gibbs: It was sort of cool, and didn't take away from the episode. Still, it didn't add much, there was no reason to do it, and it felt like a gimmick done just for the sake of it.

M.L. House: INCREDIBLY lame. First, it was a transparent attempt to be edgy (suddenly the characters curse and get beeped, even though they've never once cursed in the history of the show?!?). Second, it was a cop-out by the writers. I'd rather have actual stories depicting the pain the doctors are going through, not them just staring into a camera an saying it.

Mrs. Northman: I liked it! It showed us an interesting look inside each character that we usually don't get to see because they normally aren't speaking directly to the camera.

3. Which medical case were you most moved by last night?

L.J. Gibbs: The double-amputee, and not just because of his self-deprecating sense of humor ("I'd bury my head in my hands, but I don't have any hands...") or the tie-in with the episode name. Was his wife crazy Katie Kent from Private Practice, though, or am I confusing her with someone else? Assuming I'm correct, how can you have the main cast cross over between shows, but cast one of PP's most infamous guest characters as this random woman?

M.L. House: The one with Mandy Moore. She hasn't moved me this much in a faux medical instance since A Walk to Remember.

Mrs. Northman: Probably Zack's because he was able to get a new lease on life.

Ariz-allie

OFF TO AFRICA? Will Arizona and/or Callie really leave? Will they stay together?

4. Will Callie and Arizona make it?

L.J. Gibbs: I have a feeling Arizona's going to Africa without Callie, but that they'll work things out and get back together when she returns. Also, she will no longer conveniently stand in front of charts and sleeping bags at that juncture.

M.L. House: Yes. And they'll become huge soccer fans in the process.

Mrs. Northman: I def. hope so! Why not? Callie made a big sacrifice to leave with Arizona. Why break-up now?

5. Seriously, when will Cristina get it together?

L.J. Gibbs: From the Grey's Anatomy spoilers I've read and the previews we've posted, next week looks like it will be HUGE for Cristina. How will she respond when she's actually in a do-or-die situation? I fear it may get worse before it gets better.

M.L. House: Maybe, never. I hate to break it to you, Round Table Question Maker Guy, but some experiences are too traumatic to move past.

Mrs. Northman: Of course! It's Cristina. I just hope its sooner than later. I loved the days when she kicked cardiothoracic butt!

6. Which Seattle Grace doctor would you bring in for show and tell?

L.J. Gibbs: The Chief. He's been on such a PR mission lately, I'm sure he'd deliver a kick-ass marketing powerpoint for the hospital.

M.L. House: Meredith. I want her to tell everyone as often as possible how surgeons "live to cut."

Mrs. Northman: Hmm... I'd go with Lily's choice and choose Alex. He's great with kids and not so bad to look at! ;)

1. What was your favorite Grey's Anatomy quote from the episode? Mark's little banter about Derek. And Alex singing. If those count as quotes. 2. The documentary-style filming: Cool change of pace or lame gimmick? Lame gimmick is nice. The whole thing was off. And boring. 3. Which medical case were you most moved by last night? Mary. Killing her off was wrong. 4. Will Callie and Arizona make it? Don't care. Enjoy Africa! 5. Seriously, when will Cristina get it together? Hopefully soon. I am starting to dread the SL, even if it's normal and what not. GA has beaten the SL a bit too much. 6. Which Seattle Grace doctor would you bring in for show and tell? Bailey or the Chief would make good presentations.

I don't think you can say anything about it not being okay for them to re-cast Katie from PP...they do that constantly and they're never the same characters. Last week's PP prisoner? Eugene Foote (Burke's musical idol) seasons ago. Last night's gay husband on PP? Lost his wife on GA last season. And on and on. It's a rare week not to see a re-cast. And honestly I love it! It tells me that Shonda keeps both shows as a professional environment that people want to work in and will come back to.

1. Sloan's line about Callie fixing his stereo was classic. 2. I loved it, it was great to see such a different side of the characters. I thought all the actors were so convincing playing their characters pretending to be different in front of the camera. 3. They were all great but Mary (and Bailey) broke my heart. 4. Callie and Arizona are MFEO! 5. Soon, its coming... 6. Bailey - she would be so entertaining!

1. What was your favorite Grey's Anatomy quote from the episode?
None 2. The documentary-style filming: Cool change of pace or lame gimmick?
Extremely lame and boring, no emotion, no nothing just a bunch a people talking.
3. Which medical case were you most moved by last night?
None, if had been shot in the normal Grey way maybe I would've like the patient stories but as it was it sucked big time.
4. Will Callie and Arizona make it?
At this point I don't care about Arizona and Callie. 5. Seriously, when will Cristina get it together?
Hopefully sooner rather than later because she is getting frustrating to watch. 6. Which Seattle Grace doctor would you bring in for show and tell?
Meredith to talk about how is it that she doesn't lose it when confronted with adversity.

Was Lily played by Justin Chambers's daughter? I was just wondering....

1. There weren't much of a great quotes. Alex singing to Lily. 2. So Lame. It was a boring episode. 3. Lily and Alex. 4. It's gonna be hard. Callie is not going to Africa. 5. Soon I hope. 6. Meredith.. or Alex.

I think the next step in a series of great re-casting decisions would be to have the guy that played Gary Clark show up as a sweet ol' granpa to one of Cooper's patients in Private Practice. Maybe in the season finale even, so that he really stands out.

2: Incredibly lame gimmick! I found myself bored, and didn't get moved and drawn in as I usually always do with Grey's. The stories with the man with the arms, the girl Lily and Mary were all good patient stories, but they could have been so much more if they had been shown in the usual Grey's way.
3: Lily and Karev - I love seeing him work with children, those are always my favourite cases. Karev has got such a good mix of soft and hard in his character, and has an incredible amount of hidden emotion shining through now and then.
4: Yes, I think they'll make it.
5: Cristina needs to come back in some way soon, the staring and being quiet is getting a bit old. I think perhaps she might respond better than she has till now if she's put in an extreme situation where she just has to "snap out of it", if that's possible. Conclusion: I'm really hoping for good, old-fashioned episodes from next week!
