TV Fanatic Mid-Season Report Card: House 12/21/2010

at . Comments

With our favorite prime time shows on hiatus, TV Fanatic is taking a look back at some buzzed-about programs and grading their performance this fall, with a look toward 2011.

Last week, we examined Bones. Today: House.

Best episode: "Office Politics." It introduced us to Martha Masters, who has been a great addition to the cast. It also gave us more insight into Taub, highlighted by a basketball showdown between him and Foreman.

It was also a welcome sight to see guest star Jack Coleman outside of the trainwreck that was Heroes.

Dating and Working Together

Best character: Gregory House would be the obvious answer, so let's go with Wilson. The show has found the perfect way to use Robert Sean Leonard, depicting his oncologist as a sounding board for the show's title character. His serious, dry responses to House's convoluted view on life are never short of hilarious.

Worst character: Foreman. This would have been our answer last season... and the season before... and the season before that. The guy hasn't really done or said anything interesting in years.

Best relationship: We really only have one option here. While it's about time that Huddy got its romance on, the last couple episodes have really strained to create drama between the pair. It seems silly that Cuddy would really be unable to separate a lie at work from one in her personal relationship with House.

Best quote: For the fact that the show actually went there... House [to Cuddy]: Why do you hate chickens? I had to choke one last night because of you.

Best use of Amber Tamblyn: As previously mentioned, her Martha Masters has given the show a jolt of energy and intrigue.

Hopes for 2011: Less contrived Cuddy drama, more jokes about sex with Cuddy. A case of the week that lasts... two weels.

Overall grade: B Minus. I hate to say it, but Huddy is already feeling a bit stale. The show doesn't have many places to go with these two. The break-up between Wilson and Sam also seemed to come out of nowhere. Still, Hugh Laurie's performance makes every episode worthwhile.

well i like HUDDY..
but maybe we need a little bit more of this show
i really like it im a super fan..
but come on David Shore you can do more things with the characters. :D
i love this show

Since Huddy there is no such thing as "best" in this show. The only "best" left is Hugh Laurie.

Gosh, Hose is one of the best shows! At least this season it is for me.
They deserve at least an A!

Chase has always been untrustworthy and a real backstabber to put himself ahead. I liked Chase better when he was no longer on House's team but still involved with the cases as surgeon and consultant to the current team. Foreman is just too grating -- like he really hates House and is longing to see him fail. Maybe the show needs someone like Foreman on the team for inner conflict, but sure wouldn't mind if he left the show. I like the idea of Tamblyn's character (the young idealist versus House's cynical pragmatism) but am not convinced that's how it will play out, or can play out for long before someone's corrupted ....

We should find more about Cuddy soon, there's an episode with Cuddy's mother and sister coming up. Lately Cuddy doesn't really seem that happy with House, it's a bit depressing seeing how sad she seems at times.
I know 13 is back soon, but I wonder if Cameron will be back again. I like 13 and I've missed her this series, its an interesting storyline watching how she copes with her health. I have health problems too and she's the character I can relate to.
I dislike Taub more than Foreman. Generally Foreman comes up with the goods and helps solve the case. But Taub is whiney all the time, and how he reacted when he found out his wife was having an emotional relationship with another man, considering how many affairs he's had.
Chase is a bit of a man-whore at the moment. He kind of reminds me of McSteamy off greys anatomy.
I'm still not sure about Amber. I don't like how she clashes with House about telling the truth. I don't get her fashion sense sometimes. One time she'll be dressing qurky, wearing a tie and the next she'll be in plain clothes.
Love House, the stuff he comes out with. So inappropriate, but so funny!!!

Amber Tamblyn has practically the same role as Jennifer Morrison. I have to assume that it was she who wanted to move on, because they needed her perspective on the show. They produced the same character, but out of the running for the hounddogs who were nailing anything they could get their hands on. She's not fresh, people....She's just an obstacle. And something that House can corrupt later. It's like watching a car race...but really, all you're waiting for is a crash. I agree that they have dropped the ball on the House/Cuddy romance (I will not stoop to the goofy ComboRefs that are so hip these days. They suck ass.) The couple has a history of...what? least twenty years? Cuddy is unaware the man lies about everything to screw with everybody for pretty much no reason other than to see how it turns out? It's a foolish contrivance to build drama.....But one where the characters have to pretend that they don't know something about the other, which makes it even lamer. Personally, I'd be interested in learning something more about Cuddy. That ep where she has to play chess with the drug providers was cool. Also, what say they tie her in with her character from "What Women Want." I gotta bet Omar Epps rankles at every script he's given. The man is given NOTHING to do. Jesse Spencer is happy-go-lucky. Peter Jacobson gets to play sad sack. But Epps gets nothing but to be the mirror image of House....and the alsoran. On the other hand. He gets a paycheck every week to look bemused and a little pissed off....I'd probably do it.

I hate Huddy, but I love Amber Tamblyn, the show will never be as good as it used to be but so far so average this season

Why do you hate chickens? I had to choke one last night because of you. LOL.

People don't get what they deserve. They just get what they get. There's nothing any of us can do about it.
