Grey's Anatomy Review: Still Want That Second Chance?

at . Comments

Last night’s Grey's Anatomy, "Start Me Up," was terrific, creating a bunch of new loose ends and concluding with one of the all-time cliffhangers. Seeing how the different relationships develop the rest of the season should be interesting to say the least.

Callie is still so angry with Arizona, but Kyle’s speech about his undying love for Brady (Callie’s patient) seemed to hit home with her. It was great to see “Ricky” from My-So Called Life playing Kyle in such a poignant, albeit minor, role.

When Brady forgives Kyle for getting him hurt, Callie grows quiet and seems to wish she could do the same with Arizona, who spends the entire episode trying to make up with both Callie and Sloan - and clearly looking for an ally in Mark.

Little does she know ...

She's Back, But ...

Arizona might want to look for a new sublet option.

At the end, Arizona apologizes yet again to Callie, only to have her admit (as the Grey's Anatomy spoilers have hinted for weeks on end) that she is pregnant with Sloan’s baby.

Do you think this will keep Arizona from pursuing a relationship with Callie? How would the dynamic between Arizona, Callie, and Sloan work if they did get back together?

It’s kind of difficult to picture the three of them and a baby living together happily ever after. Also, Callie hasn’t even told Sloan about the baby yet. He has expressed his desire to have a child in the past, but now he is finally back together with Lexie.

How do you think Sloan and Lexie will react to the news?

Meredith is concerned about getting pregnant, and it seems like this is going to be a recurring issue going forward. She and Derek look like they are doing well again, and he is being very supportive. It is ironic that Callie got pregnant, while Meredith can’t.

Think that will cause tension between them in upcoming episodes as well?

When Henry’s medical problems get more and more serious throughout the episode, Teddy begins to second guess her decision to marry him so spontaneously.

She is upset when the Chief chastises her and tells her that she must make Henry’s medical decisions because she is listed as his emergency contact.

When Henry confides in Teddy, however, that he has no one else left because of his recurring medical problems, a wall is broken down and they bond.

When Teddy sits on Henry’s bed holding his hand, it's clear there is something between them. Do you think Henry will ultimately be a love interest or a close friend? It seems like Henry is filling the void that Owen left in Teddy’s life when he married Cristina.

Cristina showed at the end of the episode that she is capable of being nurturing and could be a good chief resident. Who do you think will eventually get that honor?

Alex won the little contest according to the Chief, but he was only successful because he was trying to win over his attractive student. Alex is back to his old tricks.

A New Couple Alert?

Totally inappropriate relationship? Maybe, but an awesome one too.

Dr. Bailey and Eli are adorable together, but Dr. Bailey made a little speech to Teddy about how she could never have a serious relationship with Eli or bring him home to meet her son.

Do you think they will continue to date? If so, will it ever become more serious despite Bailey’s reluctance? So many unanswered questions remain after this outstanding hour.

After this week’s cliffhanger, next week’s episode and beyond should make for great TV. Until then, we leave you with some Grey's Anatomy quotes from last night ...

Callie: You want a second chance?
Arizona: Yes. I'll do anything.
Callie: Today I found out that I'm pregnant. With Mark's baby. How about now. | permalink
Meredith: It's all anybody wants, right? Clean slate. A new beginning. Like that's gonna be any easier. Ask the guy pushing the boulder up the hill. Nothing's easy about starting over. Nothing at all. | permalink
Arizona: What the hell do I have to cop to to make her give me another chance?
Sloan: You bail. When things get hard, you bail. | permalink
Teddy: Life and death decisions wasn't part of our deal. | permalink
Sloan: I'd choose her over you in the divorce. You know that, right? | permalink
Dr. Bailey: I think you're dirty. That's what I think.
Eli: You want to be dirty with me? | permalink
Chief: You've signed a marriage license, and you haven't asked him the most basic questions on how he wants to live or die. | permalink
Chief: Also it's funny when they fall down. | permalink
Callie: Things don't go the way you want them to. Ever. | permalink
Arizona: Ok, I know I'm not perfect, and I know sometimes I don't listen, and I'm sorry about that, so here I am ready to listen.
Callie: Um, ready to listen.
Arizona: Like a priest at confession. | permalink
Meredith: Well, the thong is unprofessional. | permalink
Chief: This is a totally inappropriate relationship. Totally inappropriate. | permalink
Sloan: You're a crappy listener. Add that to the list. | permalink
Cristina: Ok, you think peeing is exhausting. Wait 'til you have a muling, poo-covered infant hanging off of your boobs 24-7. | permalink
Chief: We are doctors. We save people's lives every day without marrying them. You marry someone you love. | permalink
Meredith: People are really romantic about the beginnings of things. Fresh start. Clean slate. A world of possibility. But no matter what adventure you're embarking on, you're still you. You bring you into every new beginning in your life, so how different can it possibly be. | permalink
Meredith: The baby doesn't want to set up shop in a hostile uterus. | permalink
Arizona: Well, now I'm your subletter. Hooray? | permalink
Callie: My lack of interest in seeing you is not a strategy. I'm not playing hard to get. I don't want to see you because I turned my life upside down for you and you walked away because for a week I was cranky. You're untrustworthy, so I don't want to see you. You're self-centered, so I don't want to see you. I am a hundred percent certain that if I let you back in my life again you will hurt me again, so I don't want to see you. This isn't a ploy. I'm not pouting. I don't want you in my life. Get your crap out of my apartment. | permalink
Teddy: That's disgusting.
Henry: Yeah, I wouldn't eat it if I were dying. | permalink

Poor Arizona! She bailed once... but she came back, and she apologized... Now she has to deal with Callie sleeping w/Mark and the pregnancy... But How is she still the bad guy? Don't think so...Callie better pull down the throne...
And who's Mark to tell Arizona about her flaws? WoW, as if the man didn't have... To those who think Callie may give the baby to MerDer, i highly doubt it...Callie has always wanted to have a baby and if she now has one, don't think she'll give it up for adoption... But i truly think MerDer deserve their own McBaby bf anyone else!

Okay !! now that I watched the episode again, I can comment. Already said how unhappy I was about Callie being pregnant so I won't talk about it.
- Loved to see Teddy and Henry !! I really wish they could fall in love... though, I saw the resemblance between Dennis/Izzie ... and I don't want that ! His story was sooo sad...
-Eli/Bailey hilarious !!! flirting and all !! well she's "having fun" and it's really cool to see her that way.
-Owen and Cris... alala, love them together.
- Mer/Der... I'm sure they'll have the McBaby, but well it was sad to see Mer like ths...
-Karev WICKEd as usual !
- the way the Chief chastised Teddy was really harsh... he was right, but still, I felt bad for her, in the OR especially... but her relationship isn't inappropriate... what she did was stupid and thoughtless but also great. All in all, it was an OK episode. not as good as the previous one though. And WHY do we have to wait until the February 3rd !!! this CRIMINAL !!!!

i was never a fan of les/gay, i even stopped watching when erica was on the show,, but Callie and AZ are so sweet, im happy they take the main storylines of the show.
i dont know why everyone is so bothered with this pregnancy. i find it really nice to have a baby. Callie has been dying to have this baby! since season 2,3 , she deserves it more than mer.
what is really annoying and boring that we don't get to see much in a single epy and we need to wait for a week or a month to get a tiny event.i heard nxt epy will be in Feb.03 !!!!
plus that everyone is sleeping with everyone which is unrealistic.

eli was hilarious and perfect

WOW is Mark Sloan fertile!! Poor Arizona. Callie should do an Arizona, and set her free to be happy. Being third-wheel parent to Callie & Mark's baby is hardly a setting for a happy like for her.

Definitely alot of drama tonight. As much as I love the spoilers the clips, I'd still to be surprised each week. I think Callie's pregnancy is going to be a false alarm, but the damage will be done with Arizona. Arizona will feel betrayed, but it will be interesting to see if she bails again or sticks to wanting another chance with Callie. I think the season ending cliff hangar will be MerDer getting pregnant, Mark/Lexie committing to each other, Yang/Owen divorcing, Teddy becoming a widow, Bailey finding love, love triangle between Karev, Avery and Sarah's character and finally Arizona and Callie comitting to legally becoming partners and adopting a child. Whew!!!

They are all idiots. Callie get pregnant by a man-whore idiot. Arizona has been hanging around Children way too much and has been acting like a child herself to point of needing Man-whore Mark to point out her flaws. Childish much. Doesn't she know herself a bit better? I liked Callie and Arizona because they were one of the few mature couples and character on this show. Now they are children in great big bad world. I can totally see Lexie ending up in Avery’s arms for sure after she finds out that Man-whore Mark who seems not to be able to control himself, he just needs to have sex, is going to be a dad with yet another woman that it isn’t her.

It's weird how ppl are like, I'm not a lesbian, so I'm sick of their story line. Um, the whole point is that they're just another relationship, and so get airtime. And for the peeps that are saying it's unrealistic: you know condoms are only 90% effective? They could have had protected sex. I don't think Alex is quite back to his old tricks, he was still one of the only ones who taught them. April got annoyed, but it's not like she was going out of her way to teach. I liked it, mcbaby will come eventually. And sif callies lying to test Arizona. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard

Rebecca from Germany! Your English is great! Do you realize most of us Americans only speak one language? :( Although here in Texas there are lots of folks who speak Spanish. One of my favorite things about this board is that people from all over the world are on it. Hey, did anyone like Off the Map? I haven't found a board for it yet. That leading man is smoking hot. (I read he's from New Zealand. How come all the men from there & Austrailia are all great looking --the guy from The Glades! Is it in the water or what?) Speaking of hot, Eli sure is. Go Bailey! That kiss was just super and Bailey's speech to Teddy, complete with girlish giggle. Too awesome!

Okay, I love almost everything.
But It's kinda a piss off to merder fans.
I highly doubt Callie's prego.
Or wont be.
But when she drop it, all I thought POOR LEXI!!!
Is that bad?
I want to know Arizona's reaction... BAD
Is there a promo for the next one?
and Callie giving MerDer her baby? you shitting right?
That would just be stupid. I kinda love Teddy and Herny, and though I get what people mean, it so doesnt seam like denny 2.0
I was giggling like a little girl when Teddy came in to give Henry the papers in front of the chief. and he said something like, "That's my wife." Eli and Baylie are cute, but I think I need time to warm up to them. Poor MerDer. There trying so hard. The want a baby unlike Callie. McBaby!!! I like Jackson and April last night. They had fun sceens. and Alex being a pig again? no. I don't like it. They said something about givning him proper closer about Izzie. I hope they do :)
