The Vampire Diaries Review: This Means War...

at . Comments

I want the boy more than I want vengeance.
Let's get both.

It. Is. So. On.

For weeks during the hiatus that concluded last week, fans had heard about the impending vampire vs. werewolf war. On "Daddy Issues," it escalated. Big time. And poor Caroline suffered at the hand of the shot 'heard round the world. Or the shots heard 'round the world, really, wooden bullet style. Ouch.

Jules and Tyler

You know it's an exciting, action-packed episode when it starts and ends with Damon wet and naked... and those scenes are merely an afterthought.

While Damon did utter some classic lines this week (Vervain is an "acquired taste," he isn't that tall, etc.), there's not much to pick apart about him at this point. We get it: he loves Elena, he can't have Elena, he constantly struggles between good and evil. I love the character, but there's little new to say about that cycle right now.

Fortunately, this installment was a great platform for Caroline, Stefan and Tyler, while it did an tremendous job introducing Brady. It's easy to understand everyone's viewpoint in this burgeoning bloodbath, which is a sign of great writing.

Caroline is still new at this vampire thing and was trying to protect her friends, but when it backfired, she cut ties with Tyler. In response, he went back to the only real family he has right now - and can you blame him? His dad is dead, his uncle is dead and Jules is talking about a code of honor and loyalty. He could use a lot of that right now.

Stefan, meanwhile, is always trying to play peacemaker, but had no choice but to fight back when confronted in the woods. Can't imagine that brawl (one of the best filmed, most tense sequences in show history) will go a long way toward helping him earn Tyler's trust.

Then there's Brady. He's a villain, sure. But he's just living the life he knows. He's likely grown up around those who instilled in him a mortal hatred for vampires. I'm certainly not rooting for him in this feud (the guy doesn't even have a superhero haircut), but I appreciate that he comes across as a multi-dimensional character.

Overall, a tight, solid, focused hour of television that continued to raise the stakes. I'll leave you with a few questions:

  • Do you trust John?
  • How touching was that group hug between Elena, Bonnie and Caroline?
  • And the "I love you" mouthing. Sorry, Delena lovers.
  • Here's your first look at next week.

Oh my goodness, i just want to give Damon a hug! :'( he made me cry again...i love him so much!

This episode was amazing, got me tuned from start to end, and the group hug was very touching...

Don't trust John. He's only helping Katherine. Bonnie, Elena, and Caroline's hug was like old school Vamp Diaries. The
"i love you" was so cute! But TEAM DAMON. I'm bored by Stefan plus I'm an Ian Somerhalder fan

I agree with someone above "I think Elena's gonna bust it with Stefan in the near future. Damon is kind of getting ready to be worthy of Elena (he is unwittingly taking the "Be worthy of your future lover" course, and that compelled news chick is gonna help him to do it)" Damon and Elena are so sexy and hot together- so much tension I love it- they need to be together- you guys may be bored with Damon being sad.... but I am SOOOOO bored with Stefan and Elena's romance..... let's hear it for Damon/Elena and Stefan/Caroline!!!!

@ Eve-TVD, you're right, Elena didn't mouth I love you back to Stefan because she mouthed (is that even a word?) first. He was replying back to her when he did it. Loved that scene!

I sense more chemistry with Stefan and Caroline that I ever sense with Stelena. I like the werewolf war and Damon and Stefan got their butt kick. If they got their butt kick by werewolves, they have no chance for Klaus.

I really liked this episode!
And I must admit that was because of Caroline storyline. Of course I love the others but Caroline may be my favorite now. I love her friendship with Stefan. And ok, Stefan wouldn't let Tyler go, but he do not try to harm him whereas, on the other side of the forest the weres were torturing (poor) Caroline. At the end of the episode, Tyler should have understand why Caroline was mad. If he really though, he can have figure that Stefan did not harmed him while his friends were torturing Caroline. I really love their last scene together! Caroline stand for herself and Tyler only proved her that she was right not telling him... I look forward to see where all that lead!
Oh, and I don't know what to think of John...and I definitively prefers Bonnie and Jeremy like that, not to much screen time^^

Chaela: 9. I think John, Katherine, and Isobel are all working together. John is keeping Elena safe so he can sacrifice her. It did cross my mind that they are working together, but not that he keeps her safe to sacrifice her. Could be a really interesting plot twist! I loved this episode. Love the BFF-bond with Caroline and Stefan (it should stay this way), loved the hug, the I love you part. (Elena didn't say it back btw). Love John, he's evil! I didn't thought about the whining/crying part of Damon, but yes he does cry a lot about Elena. I hope he finds a nice vampire girl to be with. I missed the part that everybody knows about Luca/Jonah working together with Elijah (was that when Elijah was compelling Katherine to stay in the tomb, what I also forgot). And I know that Bonnie and Jeremy were 'friends', but didn't see this coming. It went really fast. Well guess I don't mind, I like them together.

Reese williams

Jules needs to just leave.
she's bitching on how horrible the situation is with the vamps and Mason but she's personally making it 90% worse!
other 10% would be Brady, bitch dont be shootin up my fav vampire barbie and get away with it!!!!!!!!

I'm confused! Are jeremy and bonnie together now!!??
and Tyler and Caroline have to work it out!!!
