90210 Season Premiere Review: So Long, Summer!

at . Comments

Hail! Hail! The gang's all here... and a few new additions as well. As you may have read, Teddy's swan song has already been written (booo!) and, of course, Ryan and Debbie were kicked to the curb last season (yay!). So on the 9020 season premiere, we got Nila, Navid's bratty teenage sister; Austin, the hottest thing to hit Beverly Hills in a LONG time; and Jeremy, a possible new love interest for Annie.

Transitioning from high school to college is never easy and that was never more evident than by what so many of the BH crew was going through. And, if you're anything like me, the best part of coming back after summer vacation is seeing how everyone's changed.

Up in Smoke Scene

So what did the new, more grown up gang bring us on the season premiere?

Naomi's days as Queen Bee are completely over. Time to climb back up that totem pole. But she's still filthy rich. Ditching her plans to live in the CU dorms, she bought herself what appeared to be the Taj Mahal...
Silver on 90210

... And promptly threw herself a mega bash complete with pot bonfire and all. Ivy and Raj are living there, along with Annie. Max apparently was not her Prince Charming, after all, judging from her bad memory of his reaction to her not being pregnant.

I couldn't really blame him for responding the way he did. They dodged a bullet and can now pursue their dreams instead of becoming premature parents. But Naomi hadn't seen it that way. His being overjoyed at her not having Max Jr. bummed her out big time. Which led to their break up.

No worries. Shirtless, ripped-abs-to-the-max, country hunk Austin was introduced as Naomi's sexy new future conquest. There was actual heat between those two. Could you feel it?

Annie found out Marla's family was contesting the will so she had to defer her first semester at Carnegie Mellon. But Liam proposed by dropping a ring on the hood of her car.... after not hearing from him all summer. What a romantic!

After Annie turned him down, he decided to go big or go home and proposed to Annie for a second time at Naomi's party. Surprise! Liam went home. Annie once again was not having it and gave him a big fat "no." And the best part was the sound effects from the fireworks immediately afterwards.

A 90210 Surprise

It seemed that our little Miss Annie grew up over the summer. High school crushes have led to real life pondering and Annie wanted more than puppy-love declarations. Plus, she had her eye on Jeremy, an older college boy who intrigued her enough to invite him to Naomi's party.

Navid and Silver started shacking up together and acting like Ma and Pa Kettle after 50 years of marriage. To complete the picture, they decided to raise Nila, Navid's spoiled teenage sister, who decided not to relocate to Switzerland with the rest of Navid's family/

Silver wasn't too thrilled at having to raise a testy teen but now that she's part of a couple she wanted to do her part to support her partner. That Nila proved to be more than a handful though and, after throwing a hissy fit, ran away. Good times.

Silver also had to contend with Adrianna once again trying to weasel her way into her good graces. Living with the natives in an African village over the summer seemed to have changed Adrianna for the better. At least that's what she wanted the tabloids to think.

Adrianna on 90210

She confronted Silver at Naomi's party with seemingly heartfelt apologies but Silver put her in her place. Silver nearly killed herself because of Adrianna's bipolar meds switcharoo so she wasn't in a forgiving mood. Rightly so.

Dixon found himself as a "homeless, black man" after Navid screwed with his dorm application. But not to worry. In true 90210 style, he ended up getting an amazing condo by the beach complete with Austin, his easy-on-the-eyes new roommate.

Dixon also decided to not go to college and be more like his '80s stylistic musician hero Theophilus London. After being part of a hip-hop tour over the summer, the thought of sitting in a classroom for four more years lost its appeal. He's an artist, damnit. He neededs to create, and create he shall.

Ivy and Raj spent the entire summer attached at the hip, as is to be expected of newlyweds, but time had taken its toll. Raj looked like death warmed over because, well, death IS warming him over. Dying from cancer tends to not make a person glowy and warm. Poor Ivy had to struggle with being a newlywed, soon-to-be widow. She's definitely not the hippy-dippy surfer chick from last year anymore.

Teddy managed to be in a few scenes but it seemed as if the whole point of it was to just get his goodbye storyline underway. Trying to figure out how to come out to his family, he finally came up with the best way yet: Leave dad a voicemail. Perfect.

Liam got trashed after Annie dashed his marital dreams and ended up buying the beach bar everyone will most likely be hanging out at this season. But where did he get all the money to do so from? Fishing at sea doesn't pay THAT well.

Oh yeah. And Adrianna apparently slept with Austin. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

CU next Tuesday, folks! Literally.

Not bad. Tho i feel like something wrong with this new season, but idk what is it. After i watched the premiere, i dont feel like watching it for the 2nd time. :/

I'm kinda disappointed a bit with the premiere, but it's mostly because I had high hopes that they would revamp the show's opening for season 4.

LOVE LOVE IT but I love everything about 90210 guilty pleasure much the gang is really seeming to become a gang now there starting to interact with each other than their usual people now I normally support Annie and the actress playing her Annie but no does she remember her lines or trying to improvise but she needs to get it together she was so good on degrassi what happened and Teddy will get more screen time later on in the season people like they say good stuff are worth waiting for but I def will stay tuned

I loved it! The quality of picture is so much better! Naomi's house amazing!
-Naomi i really felt with her! and understand her disappointment! But I love that every time she gets kicked in love she raises like a Pheonix. i really hope she doesn't end up with Austin!
-Annie and Liam i truly agree with Annie she didn't hear from him and now he wants marry her! I'm totally LAnnie fan but they must grow up and they will en up together! Jeremy and Annie aren't bad, but i still be LAnnie again!Second proposal scene was amazing, she loves him but she isn't ready for mariage!!
-Navid and Silver I think his sister is a good twist! and mixed things up! The Silver/Ade scene was realistic i would kick her out the window so fast!! and i guess lila will run to Ade!
-ivy&raj i like them! With the Pot garden i

Well Ade sleeping with ade would certainly cause tension with naomiii hahahah

I missed Naomi. On the one hand, throwing pot on a bonfire and getting arrested for it is dumb, on the other hand, the party was definitely memorable so point Naomi. I knew Shenae is a bad actress but I think she's getting worse. I don't like Navid and Silver together though they can be interesting separately. Nila might be interesting. Austin looks to be a good rival for Naomi and possibly a bf. Dixon is still the same bland character. Liam's story was so bad it was funny.

first off this was actually a pretty good episode for the show and i'm surprised as to how much i missed it...ivy and raj are too sweet for words...ade in africa in that magazine was a joke lol..also can austin go? please? like he's seriously annoying..also liam wat did u think was gunna happen after not talking to annie all summer that coming back to propose was gunna erase all that? sorry dude

I feel horrible for Naomi, but is she actually pregnant or not? The doctor said it was a false alarm, but then she came back in and Naomi woke up! I just wish that her story about the pregnancy was more explained, other than a letter, that she didn't complete! I feel bad enough for her, but to get arrested from pot that wasn't hers, by throwing it in a bonfire? What a fool. Although, I gotta admit that I love her house.
Silver and Navid just bother me, and when I see them living together or acting as a couple, I wanna turn off my TV.
As for Adrianna, when I saw her article in a magazine "I've changed", I was actually laughing my ass off. I love her character and such, but why the hell was she in Africa? As for apologizing to Silver, that couldn't have gone better. However, anyone else notice how Dixon was really sympathetic to Adrianna with that soft arm touch?
As for Liam, I like the guy, but what a horrible way to purpose to Annie. Honestly, "Lets do this!". I mean, seriously? However, I must admit that what he did at Naomi's party, was really romantic. BUT THE SECOND SHE SAID "NO" I COULD NOT CONTROL MY LAUGHTER! Also, Annie is right, there is something more to it. Speaking of which, how the hell did he get drunk enough to buy a bar?
Teddy, well, I don't really have much input, but I look forward to his coming out story. Mainly due to the fact he told his dad on a voicemail! XD
As for Dixon, if I were him, I would have hit Navid in the face. "I changed your application, because of the Snoop Dog thing". Seriously, dude? You screwed up your friends college years and living arrangements because of that? I looked forward to Dixon living with Liam, but living with this Austin guy would be interesting. Especially considering it looks like she slept with Austin, even though he's meant to be a love interest for Naomi.
As for Ivy (and Raj), I like the fact that they're living together with Naomi and co. Gotta love Ivy's one liners. Hopefully her character does improve on me this season.
As for things, when that guy at the bar said "Do I need to be checking I.D" to actors that are aged 27-33, I was laughing so hard.

4.5 / 5? It was a 2.5 for me. Anyways, I'm not buying the whole thing about Ade helping out kids in Africa either. I think it'll soon be revealed that Ade actually spent the summer in a mental institution. Also, I highly doubt that Ade actually slept with Austin. The writers are just trying to make it look that way.
