More Gay Characters to Come on 90210?

As 90210 fans know by now, Adrianna is going gay.

Opinions on this storyline seem mixed in our forum and across our site. Do you think it's a good idea?

To those that have doubts, showrunner Rebecca Sinclair says the series is aware of other failed PR stunts that have gone this route. In a new interview, she tells Michael Ausiello that things will be different between Gia and Adrianna...

On driving force behind this storyline: There’s been a real void in the 90210 universe in terms of gay and bisexual characters, so it was always my intention to find the right way to tell a modern story about being a non-straight — or non-entirely straight — teenager. It’s crazy that we don’t have any stories about that.

Adrianna Picture

On showing respect for the relationship: This isn’t a fling. We’re coming at this [relationship] from a genuine place and not going, ‘Let’s do a titillating story that will grab some promotion.’ This is a real aspect of teenager life that’s interesting.

On Adrianna: Adrianna is, by nature, a dramatic person whose identity is not completely solid. She’s still very much in the process of figuring out show she is.

On the reaction of Adrianna's friends: Naomi, predictably, has some outrageous opinions. She thinks the best thing about fooling around with another girl is how much guys would love it. And Silver, being more sophisticated, is like, “What’s the big deal? If you like somebody and you feel attracted to them, what is holding you back?”

Might other characters explore their homosexual side? There has been some internal debate about this. I feel like as we dig into the show and hopefully make it more specific and unique and interesting, we would get into the real stuff that goes on from both the guys’ and girls’ perspective.

Jessica Stroup Spills 90210 Death Details

While 90210 fans are still buzzing over the upcoming relationship between Adrianna and Gia, another major development is on the way (spoiler alert!):

On the November 17 episode, an original Beverly Hills, 90210 cast member will pass away, as Jackie Taylor succumbs to breast cancer.

Star Jessica Stroup (Silver) spilled the storyline details in an interview this week with TV Guide Magazine. Below, she speaks on what will unravel over the next few weeks.

On reconciliation between Silver and Jackie: Silver tries to build a relationship. She moves in with her. Her mom actually recreates all the birthdays and special moments that she missed because of her alcoholism. It’s really sweet, with Silver being the parent.

Silver and Jackie

On Kelly's reaction: Kelly’s had more time being let down by Jackie and has built up more resentment and hatred. She has given up on reconciliation and doesn’t want to deal with her mom’s condition. But in the hospital, Kelly walks into an empty hospital room and thinks she’s lost her chance to say goodbye. This wakes her up and makes her realize she has to say goodbye.

On future relationships for Silver: Teddy will be able to relate to her because we’ll find out that he’s gone through something similar in his own life. He’ll be there for her, and a little spark happens between them that’s sort of out of the blue.

And we learn Dixon goes to the funeral. This will bring them back together when he comes to her. He’ll realize that maybe he misses her as more than just a friend. So "Sixon" may not be done!

Sixon? We love it!

Do you wanna see Silver end up with Dixon? Or are you digging her flirtation these days with Teddy?

90210 Round Table: "Women's Intuition"

Welcome to the latest edition of the 90210 Round Table!

As mentioned earlier today, we didn't love the show's latest episode and we'll explain why below.

But we always encourage feedback and disagreements, so please visit our 90210 forum or leave a comment and let us know your thoughts on various Round Table topics. Let's get right to them...

Is this the last we'll hear from Sasha?
BrendaLova: I'd have to think so. I just hope this storyline wasn't a means to create more tension between Debbie and Harry. How will Dixon react to the supposed miscarriage? I'm curious to find out.

The Real McKay: No way. That girl is nutso! I'm sure she'll weasel her way into Dixon's life again somehow. Sleep with one eye open, Debbie.

Wild4Wilds: Yes. But, according to various spoilers (sorry, I peeked!), it's not the last time Dixon will get involved with a cougar.

Is Ivy a welcome addition to the show?
BrendaLova: Not the way she's been introduced. Her relationship with Liam hasn't seem natural from the outset, as they immediately laid into each other, only to soon lay each other. A bit of character development first would have been nice.

The Real McKay: Definitely. Adrianna, Silver and Naomi are all sort of similar. It's nice to see a female jock on 90210.

Wild4Wilds: She is, but it's been a bit too much, too quickly. Ivy got more air time this week than Silver. That didn't feel right to me.

90210 Music from "Women's Intuition"

Adrianna got rejected, Dixon got some bad news and Liam and Ivy got it on.

A great deal went down on this week's episode of 90210, all of which we've recapped and reviewed.

Women Around Navid

But we're gonna ignore storylines and characters for a few moments and focus on the 90210 music played during "Women's Intuition."

As we do each week, TV Fanatic has listed a few samples of singles below and we've made it easy to purchase these songs via iTunes. Check them out now...

  • The Kills - "Cheap and Cheerful" The Kills - Midnight Boom - Cheap and Cheerful

90210 Review: "Women's Intuition"

Before we critique our least favorite 90210 episode of the season, allow us to say something positive about "Women's Intuition."

After The CW hyped Samantha Ronson as a guest star, viewers could have blinked and missed her appearance. That made us happy.

Almost everything else, however, made us feel like the show is taking gigantic steps backward. Read a detailed recap of the episode and let us know if you agree with our review below...

Teddy, Liam and Ivy... Oh My! 90210 has clearly made an effort this season to unite characters in cliques, following the Dylan/Steve/Brandon and Kelly/Donna/Brenda models from the original. That's fine. But it would be nice to actually make these friendships seem developed and realistic.

Teddy, for example, is Mr. Hollywood, raised by a major movie star and more arrogant than anyone else on the show; yet, somehow, he's incredibly tight with Liam, who despises anything having to do with Hollywood. Has the series given us any reason to believe these two would be friends?

Awkward Trio

Even worse, 90210 introduced Ivy last episode, got her into an instant screaming match with Liam, then had them call a truce, become BFF and make out - all within two weeks. Sometimes, slower is better. Take your time with relationships, 90210. There's more of a payoff in the end when you do.

Fake Pregnancy, Wasted Storyline. Many posters in our 90210 forum guessed that Sasha was faking her pregnancy (props to them!), so this didn't come as a surprise. But, similar to our above complaint, it all played out so quickly. Was the show just looking to give Dixon a storyline? It's okay to keep a character on the backburner for a couple weeks.

Smart Teacher, Moronic Human Being. At West Beverly, Ryan appears to be an ideal teacher. Not only does he know his textbooks, but he clearly understands students and can relate to others well. That's what makes his relationship with Jen even more baffling and frustrating. She's been playing games and manipulating him, that much is obvious. Still, for some reason, he believes any word out of her mouth.

It makes sense that Naomi can be played by Jen because she's her sister and is blinded by both love and the need for a close relationship with at least one family member.

But, similar to our criticism of the Teddy and Liam relationship, it's unclear what Ryan sees in Jen, aside from being hot and, we'd imagine, great in bed. There's nothing (at all!) wrong with those two qualities, but Ryan acts like a manipulated, whipped puppy around her. Man up, dude!

Agree with our assessment of this episode? Did you like it more than we did? Leave a comment, let us know and check out a few 90210 quotes from it below:

Liam: I don't want anything serious.
Ivy: Serious? What are you, a girl? | permalink
Silver: Can we talk about something not cancer related?
Teddy: I'm using a new hair product. What do you think? | permalink
Ryan: You introduce me to cool musicians and I'll introduce you to high school students. | permalink
Ryan: Are we fighting or dating?
Jen: It's both, I think. | permalink

Grade the 90210 Episode "Women's Intuition"

Samantha Ronson was a surprising guest star, but was she an effective one?

Adrianna made another plea for Navid's affection, but this seems to be the end of the line for the couple.

A lot went down on this week's episode. We encourage fans to discuss "Women's Intuition" in our 90210 forum and to share their take on it below.

Ivy and Teddy

As always, we'll post a detailed recap/review of the hour early tomorrow. We hope you return to comment on it then.

For now, give this week's installment a grade...

90210 Scoop: More on Adrianna Going Gay

The rumors and spoilers are true: Adrianna will start a relationship with Rumer Willis' Gia on 90210.

The controversial storyline will unfold in January, as the two characters bond at an AA meeting.

"Gia develops a crush on her, and Adrianna is initally freaked out," 90210 producer Rebecca Sinclair told Entertainment Weekly. "But then she starts to question her own feelings."

Poster of 90210 Cast

What about Navid? Tune in tonight, as he turns down Adrianna's advances and makes it clear he's no longer interested in a relationship with her.

As for Lowndes' take on the same-sex relationship, she said: "I've never kissed a girl before so it's a little nerve-racking."

It also seems a little desperate on the show's part, but we're willing to let this plot develop and see how it plays out. Are you?

Tristan Wilds Warns of Dixon's "Bad Path" on 90210

Annie has been headed for disaster since the first season finale of 90210. But might she soon be joined by her brother?

In an interview with E! News, when asked what's ahead for his character of Dixon, Tristan Wilds replied:

"Besides the pregnancy, something's going to happen that's definitely going to send Dixon down a bad path. There's something that's going to make Dixon really, really closed in, especially to his parents."

Something aside from the pregnancy? What could that be, readers?!?

Dressed Up Dixon

Meanwhile, Wilds also chimed in about the problems facing fellow CW drama Melrose Place, which has struggled with ratings and recently fired two regulars.

"It's the first season, so of course there's going to be hiccups and things wrong," he said. "Usually they wait a season, smooth everything out and come back a second season, like us.

"Last year, everything was rocky, we admit that. But this season, more people love it and we found our mistakes."

90210 Set Pics Reveal Naomi and Liam Romance

On 90210 these days, Naomi is dating a college hunk.

Liam, meanwhile, is poisted to romance new surfer chick Ivy.

But previous show spoilers have hinted at a reconciliation between these two, as Naomi will eventually discover that Jen is the one that's been lying all along about her dalliance with Liam.

Still, that leaves the aspiring couple with the problem that Liam slept with Naomi's sister. How will he attempt to apologize and woo Naomi again?

Based on the set photos below, with a candle-lit dinner on the beach. That typically solves all sibling shagging problems...

Kelly Lynch to Guest Star on 90210, Go Cougar on Ryan

Looks like Dixon won't be the only 90210 character to get involved with a cougar this winter.

Multiple sources confirm that Kelly Lynch will appear on the show in early 2010. She'll play Laurel, an older, pot-smoking woman that gets involved with Ryan Matthews.

The character will possess a history of sleeping with rock stars and celebrities, but that isn't the news that will throw Ryan for a loop: she's also the mother of one of his students!

Kelly Lynch

Lynch most recently enjoyed a multi-episode run on The L Word. Guess this means Ryan and Jen will soon call it quits. Thank goodness!
