Hawaii Five-O Review: "Ua Lawe Wale"

Ua Lawe Wale: Taken without right.

The second offering of the season helped us fall back into the familiar rhythm with Five-O, as Steve and the team investigated a girl who was "Ua Lawe Wale."

What happened to Lt. Commander Joe White? There was no mention of Terry O'Quinn character that appeared last week to help Steve get his unit back together, despite the heavy advertising push by CBS.

Lauren German on Hawaii Five-O

In other news, who expected to hate Detective Lori Weston as the Governor’s watch dog? Now, raise your hand if you really liked her by the end of the episode? Okay, good. Me too.

I’m not going to jinx her and say she should be a full-time member, but I will say she brings a very nice element to the team with her background.  It doesn’t hurt for Five-O to tap into some of the other CBS shows out there and pull in an ex-FBI profiler. Hey Steve, I hear Gina Lasalle’s profiling team was disbanded; maybe you could give her a call if Lori doesn’t work out. I'll vouch for her.

Lauren German brings a very sultry mix to the table. From having her hair up when it's "go time" and kicking ass, to having her hair down and looking alluring walking into the office, she actually reminds me a lot of Melinda Clarke (Amanda on Nikita) with her ability to be sexy in almost any setting. (Need an example? Raise your eyes.)

I'm really curious where they are going with Kono. First, she walked into her house where the Captain of Internal Affairs was flipping through her yearbook. Then, if that wasn’t creepy enough, he turned around and ended as the ultimate Haole: Tom Sizemore.

Tom Sizemore on Hawaii Five-O

Don’t get me wrong, I like Sizemore’s work. But from Steve and Danny, to Lt. Governor Sam Denning, and now Sizemore, we haven't had one Hawaiian native in charge of any high profile departments.

I'm sure if we put our minds to it, we could suggest half a dozen actors who are (or appear to be) Samoan that could have played the hard-nosed Internal Affairs Captain just as well as Sizemore. Dwayne Johnson, anyone?

It’s going to be interesting to see where Kono's path takes her. Now that she has been completely ejected from the police force, Five-O and the State prosecutor is taking the case to move forward, she has some work ahead of her. But she has a strong family (Steve, Danny, Chin Ho, to name a few) and she could come out of all of this a stronger person.

Finally, we had the departure of Jenna Kaye, who I just knew the entire episode was going to be discovered as the traitorous bitch she is before she left. Sadly, I was wrong. But after she mentioned her fiancée might be alive, it made me wonder if she was blackmailed into helping Wo Fat. I'm sure this is not the last we have seen of her.

What did you think of the episode? Did you miss O’Quinn? Did you like Lori Weston? Is there someone else who should have played Captain Frye?

I do NOT like the Haole Lori Weston on the Five-O Team. She is ok as a consultant and love interest for McGarrett like Lt Rollins was, but don't make her a member of the five-o team. Keep Kono on the team and give her more screen time as a five-o team member and cop!! I like it when Kono goes undercover or acts as a decoy in dangerous situations.

Awful! I thought this was HAWAII 5-O! I would like to see more island fever (not the new girl!)...she does nothing for the show but distract from Dano and Kono. I certainly hope it gets better. Loved the 1st season.

Well congratulations, Season 2: two episodes and I'm this close to giving up watching any more, despite having loved Season 1. In addition to the ongoing unease I feel that only Haoles are in positions of authority, the suspension of disbelief that this episode required was just ridiculous. But more than anything else I reacted very badly to the choice of actress to play Lori. She may well be a good actress, but does she have to be young, white, made-up at all times, and physically perfect? I couldn't take her seriously for an instant and the clumsy writing "hinting" oh so subtly at her "interesting" backstory was the last straw. I'm not averse to mixing up the formula a bit and it's refreshing to have more than a token woman on a team, but this is painful.

Dwayne Johnson...I would rather see him as part of the team. I like his roles that are more good guy than someone who is hard-nosed. And I could see him bending and stretching the rules to get the bad guys

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT! This show was about the bromance between Steve and Danny and the action of cases in Hawaii together with Chin and Kono. Last night was terrible - No Danny, No Kono(I too think she is undercover), hardly any Chin, and assorted women coming and going and Tom Sizemore! It wasn't Hawaii 5-0 that's for sure, it could have been shot in LA. There was no usual warmth and friendship in the show last night. I hope that this is not the new direction for the show.

@Ice "That's why I'm always worried about everything." in that case, u have a very ironic name iceman, but i am worried too, and i want to thank Jim too the review was great and the comments calmed me and my friends down because we want more Danny time too.

Thanks,Jim! I just wanna say we all love this show, and also we'd like to see this new series could be more fantastic and popular. That's why I'm always worried about everything.(;V;)

Hey Ice, I am guess Danny and Chin's reduced time was to allow Jenna to exit and Lori to enter... I'm not going to panic until it's been several episodes the same way.

May I ask just one question that was this the same Five-O team as last season????
Adding a new character, okay that's no problem for me,but could you just guarantee not to shorten the time of Danny and Chin being on screen.
Please do not destroy the original team which we love from the beginning.
And please bring Kono back to the team, nobody could replace Kono in the team.

Thank You Mrs. Cleaver, I am honored to receive such praise... I enjoy the comments people leave very much, so I'm back here several times :) Allow me to throw something out to the Anti-Lori crowd.... What if she turns out to enjoy woman as much as Danny and Steve do? Now, I'm *not* saying that is the case, I am just asking the question. But it certainly would throw an interesting twist into the team along the way..... hmmmmmmm
