True Blood Review: The Ties That No Longer Bind

at . Comments

Ding dong, the wicked witch is not actually dead.

Jesus used a dead body, some mysterious babble and a bit of self-mutilation to unbind Antonia from Marnie on "Soul of Fire" - thereby rescuing Sookie from one of the least impressive CGI fires in recent memory - only for that pesky supernatural to take over his boyfriend's body later that night.

Seriously, don't you hate when that happens?

Pam with a Gun

It took a great deal of stupidity on the parts of numerous characters to arrive as this point. Why would Marnie let Jesus, who only last week impressed her with his demonic skill set, alone with that dead body? Why would Sookie and company agree to join hands with Marnie on another spell? And were Eric and Bill really gonna kill themselves just to save one human being?

I know, it's Sookie. I know, this was meant to be sweet and romantic and all... but knowing it wouldn't actually happen removed most of the suspense. As I complained after "
Burning Down the House," this love triangle has grown tiresome. I'm really not interested in seeing Bill and Eric try to one-up each other for the foreseeable future.

Did you catch Eric referring to Bill as "Your Majesty" as they were cleaning up the mess at Moon Goddess, though? It does appear as if he remembers everything from his spelled-out state, which ought to make for even more well-rounded character.

But take it easy on Pam, E! Come on. She and Jason were the only ones thinking clearly during this attempted destruction of the store, albeit, ironically, from opposite points of view. You created Pam, Eric. You know what she's about and she's been of use to you in her icy, sarcastic, straightforward state for centuries. Don't cast her aside now just because you're blinded by love.

A Fanged Foursome

Elsewhere, hey, fairies still exist! And they have questionable taste in men! While Andy's self-congratulatory reaction to tasting this being's personal light fruit (if you know what I mean!) had me laughing out loud, the development seems random and forced. I'm still not sure why Terry would have left Andy in the woods alone, except that it served to bring a fairy back into the picture, one we can only assume will play a role in next week's finale, with Andy sworn to protect her.

Then again, we might not hear from the fairies again for nine more weeks. That's been the pattern so far.

I have no sarcastic digs for Alcide, however. Way to stand up to Debbie, big guy! I will call you boring, no longer. I will ask that you grow a spine, no longer.

Elsewhere on the episode:

  • Loved Lafayette providing play-by-play of Marnie and Antonia's early interaction, constantly referring to the latter as "bitch."
  • Loved Jessica's reaction to Bill nearly committing suicide. Don't you ever do that to me again. Perhaps the show can further explore the Maker/Makee relationship down the line.
  • Loved that whipped witch high-fiving Marnie.
  • Did not love Sam reacting with such violence and temper over Tommy's death. Seriously, that guy sucked.

What did everyone else think?

Gosh! some people r just so hard to please!! i absolutely loved the episode! Although i do wish Marnie was actually dead

Heart-juice box.

I watched this episode 3 times last night! I LOVED IT! Everything! I don't know what you people are talking about! It was great! CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE NEXT WEEK! I WISH that they would continue through the winter months I would keep HBO. I only get it for True Blood!!!!!

The best part IMO was Antonie giving that guy High-Five, Lala's "Marnie just puked a bitch out" & Badass Eric & Jess, Bill, Pam and Eric doing the creep because of that spell. I had to laugh.

Am I, the only one actually really enjoyed this episode??? I love, that Eric (and Bill... and I am no Bill-Fan)showed their love for Sookie without getting naked. I love the looks they shared with each other. I love that we get to see a whole bunch of emotions without a lot of action or talk between Sookie, Eric and Bill. And YES, it is cheesy that Eric and Bill agreed to die for her, and YES it is irrational and mean that Eric casts Pam out the way he did and YES I would have preferred a couple episodes, "Sookie-Eric-as a real couple" with out Bill in the picture... BUT, wouldn´t we all die for someone who would die for us?!?!? Or for someone who puts us first, before friends and family? Or for not one but two men who are royally and madly in love with us?? And as this is "only" fiction, I very much enjoy that this show doesn´t make sense a lot, or is over the top or cheesy or ridiculous... I just sit back and enjoy the ride!

I've been watching this season and there is something that has happened that has my curiosity going.
Back when Jason was envolved with Amy Burley and both were doing 'V', when they would make love there was the light that passed between them that both couldn't explain. After that was when we were introduced to Sookies 'light' and her powers. Could Jason be maybe a 'lesser' Fey? Could he have some of the fairie blood passed to him from their grandfather and Jason being Jason hasn't figured it out?

Love the fact that viking Eric is really back, sucking blood straight from the heart was probably one of the most memorable scenes this season! I also liked Jesus' dark side showing up and Pams wisecracking. I'm not sure about Andy's fairylove-storyline. I just hope it's going somewhere, not like Jasons hotshot-story. I still don't get the purpose of that, since it seems to be completely forgotten. I think Alcide, instead of Sam, killing Marcus will have some serious consequences. Marcus was packmaster, and I have a feeling that Alcide automatically will become Shreveports new packmaster by killing the previouse one..

lots of thrills, action, emotions, why people don't like the episode? i mean the episode is well structured, well directed and for once, the acting is really good, many goodlines like "gasp in a sundress", "marnie just pucked a bitch out" and more, which gives to the episode a comic relief, common guys i was dissapointed by the beggining of the season because it was too much slow driven but this episode, i enjoyed every moment of it but i guess the fans are never satisfied, but what you were complaining in the beginning was eric is too gentle we want old eric back, and you got it, him sucking the blood of the wicken's heart, you were complaining about the storylines going nowhere, but they all had a proper ending and the finale i think they are going to be all one, like in season 2, common guys you have to say that this episode is the best one, fast driven that's what we wanted because season's 3 finale was dumb, it was not like they promised you things, they had all these storylines that have endings, great endings, isn't it enough, because there are comments saying the show dissapointed me a lot, i'm not gonna watch it again, dissapointed you in what level, i have to say that TRUE BLOOD is pure fun it's not meant to be serious so i had a lot of fun this summer thans to TRUE BLOOD, best show of the summer because the main story has a begginning and an ending through one season, it's not like you have to wait a year to see the ending, no every season there's a story, a GREAT GREAT STORY

didn't you see last episode - Eric has his memory back

Marnie just puked that bitch out.

I'm so sick of silverin' myself all day every day, being pissed off all the time. This is what PMS used to feel like.
