Hawaii Five-0 Review: Too Fast, Not Enough Furious

Ike Maka: Identity

While not as much fun as last week’s bromantic opening, we did get launched into the team again on Hawaii Five-0 here, with some one-on-one time as Danny was staying at Steve’s.

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that Danny looks like he would be the worst house guest ever. I can’t imagine having someone stay with me who keeps the TV on all night, so loud that I could hear it clearly from my room. Steve is a stronger man than I am. I would have kicked Danny to the curb long before he had been there two weeks.

I guess “Homeless Danno” is Scott Cann’s new thing this season, as he has been in a couple of different hotels and almost rented a haunted apartment. Here’s hoping he can find a place to call his own so we can get back to some more original interactions between him and Steve.

Danno on the Coucho

As for the main case... being an unashamed lover of all things Fast and Furious, (who doesn't love Vin Diesel?!?) I was ready to sink my teeth into the seedy underbelly of street racing and restored cars in Hawaii.

Sadly, what we got was more fizzle than dazzle. Don’t get me wrong, the story was entertaining, but other than the one scene in the garage and Lori playing bait, we didn't get much in the way of the cars racing, just car theft.

Okay, the opening scene with the cops chasing the Camero was pretty awesome, but it looked like they were actually trying to play up the car theft ring angle right from that moment. When the police started popping open shipping containers and found the muscle cars inside my wife actually asked out loud: What, did they watch Gone in 60 Seconds?

This comment was made humorously ironic a little later when the dead guy turned out to be going by the last name of Raines (Nicholas Cage was Memphis Raines in the aforementioned movie, as everyone knows). My only wish would have been for more cars.

In retrospect, I wonder if there are really that many muscle cars in Hawaii, given that everything has to be shipped over. Anyone from the islands know?

Cars aside, I have to mention my new favorite sharp-shooter: Kono!

Who knew she was trained to as a sharpshooter? I thought she was going to be on the balcony and she was going to point her gun at the bad guy when he backed out of the door. I did not see a head shot coming! Nicely done, Kono.

There was only one thing that truly bugged me and that was Max and his constant ignoring of Steve and Danny. I won't even get into how stupid it was for him to be mad at these two over them not replying to his personal email. What I will mention is that both Steve and Danny have no problem confronting bad guys with weapons, yet neither could man up and follow Max into the next room and corner him for an answer?

Apparently the Medical Examiner out ranks Five-0, given how they went to the “kiss his butt” resolution method.

Finally, I leave you with one question from the Lori fan club: “How awesome was Lori as Sandy from Grease at the end?” I don’t blame Danny and Steve for scrambling out of the office, I would have been at the front of the line.

Lori, Lori. I liked her till now but no more. Kono should be the only woman in the team, she deserves it. John, I agree with you, there has been some chemistry between her and Steve after that shooting. That look was amazing :) One more good thing: Chin Ho is wearing T shirts again instead of those ugly shirts. He shouldn't hide his body :)

And next week is the Terry O'Quinn show again. Hasn't the producers learned yet to get back to the fab 4? And please get someone that is more believable as a corinor.

Love the show! Really love when there is more of the original 4, Steve, Danny, Kono and Chin. Having a real hard time warming up to Lori. I was really scared during the first shows of the season when Kono was working under and we didn't know that. Thought she was being replaced by Lori! Can't have that! Kono should be the only female who is a part of that team. Sorry Lori, just can't continue to see you as a part of that team.

Umm...JJ, I read that she auditioned for 10 shows this year before getting this part. Doesn't that tell you something? Come on, the girl cannot act. The more she tries to be seductive the more painful she is to watch. She was up against 2 other actresses. I would love to know who they were. If she was the best, the casting director should have started the search all over again.

Are you staff writers employed by CBS? Just wondering...Lori sucks plain and simple. Sorry but I have really tried to get on board with her and the only thing that happened is "I was bored" with her. I don't have anything against the actress. I just think she might do really well in a different type of show.

Lori is officially my new girl crush on TV. She kicks ass and make a fabulous Sandy. Love love love her. What is wrong with you people??? ;-)

Been some GREAT post this morning, please forgive me as I want to reply to a few comments and it's better to do in a single post than spam the thread. For Diana, I will conceed that in hindsite, Max ignoring them was funny, sadly it came across confusing to me while "in progress" For Mrs. Cleaver, I missed a couple of episode during Season 1 right around the holidays due to moving and the DVR not getting setup.. Apparently that was one I missed! Dang it they need to have her with the rifle more often. To Colleen Keehne, Thank you.. I assumed there were *some* cars there, just wasn't sure how real the depiction was :) To Ross, if Jenna does kill Lori, I will note that you called it first. As a Lori fan I hope your wrong hehehe. For MrWriteSF, he gave the doctor Ryan, but the name he was using with the G/F and on his ID was Raines, he had a total of 3 names including his real name. Finally, for Symph2001, I could not agree more, not many people can pull off the Sandy pants!

I don't have anything against the actress but her character got to go. I try my best to like her but it not working..Lori need to be in the back burner so she don't try to take screen time from kono and chin. It the only way for her character to be like. ;p

The episodes are getting better, and I'm glad to see McGarret and Danny doing things together again instead of McGarrett and Lori. But I still don't like Lori. She is featured much more over Kono and Chin who are now paired together for everything instead. Lori...I just don't like her. The dynamic is off. There have been no bonding momens with Kono, just her having contacts and knowing lots of things and people. And where is the resentment they had for her? It lasted one episode. And the new governor? Shouldn't Steve have done something by now to piss the guy off?

Get rid of Lori. I miss Kono being the undercover one. I miss all aspects of Kono from last year. Lori is ruining everything. I truly believe if she was gone the show would be back to where it was last year....which was FANTASTIC

Hawaii Five-0 Season 2 Episode 9 Quotes

Danny: The waves keep crashing over and over
Steve: Some would call it soothing Danny
Danny: Some would call it Hawaiian Water Torture.

Not me, I would not partake of such in such a morally questionable activity. Other, on the other hand don't have my strength of character.
